The word “Buddha” is derived from the Sanskrit word budh and is generally translated as “one who is awake.” To many Buddhists, the Buddha is a man who achieved spiritual enlightenment — a state of mind in which all traces of personal suffering have been extinguished and reality is viewed with an unfailing clarity.

Jurakuji, founded in 815 by Kobo Daishi (Kukai) during his pilgrimage teachings, serves as a beacon of hope and enlightenment within Tokushima Prefecture's serene landscapes. According to the temple's foundation story, Kobo Daishi encountered a divine white snake, prompting him to carve and enshrine an image of Amitabha Buddha in a reclining position. Among its various spiritual offerings, the temple houses the deity Aizen Myoo within the Nakamondo Hall, symbolizing the transformation of earthly desires into enlightenment and spiritual awakening. The temple's history is characterized by resilience, spiritual guidance, and the ongoing pursuit of enlightenment. In Europe, Buddhism is on its way of reaching mainstream people in three different ways, the positive public image has established Buddhism as a viable and accessible alternative to other religions, leading to a tremendous growth in terms of the number of centres and members. Second, vipassanā meditation and its various secular forms have become increasingly practiced as a trendy form of stress-reduction and developing awareness. Finally, the market turned the widespread projections of Buddhism as peaceful, tolerant, and basically positive in different products such as Buddhist figures, thankas, sound bowls, and much more. These products are readily available for purchase in numerous furniture and garden shops. Buddha figures have become decorative objects in the family room and garden, symbolising calmness and modern spirituality. Buddhism has such taken numerous forms in Europe, shaped by the large-scale social trends of pluralisation, secularisation, and commodification.

The Buddha Smriti Park was developed by the Bihar government in Patna, India to commemorate the 2554th birthday of Lord Buddha. It is an urban oasis spread over a generous area of 22 acres. The main attraction of the park is two Bodhi trees, planted by the Dalai Lama, along with a statue of Lord Buddha.
The 200-foot-high Pataliputra Karuna Stupa is a circular structure that is the most prominent feature of the park. It has multiple entrances and houses a relic of Lord Buddha, one of the eight original relics excavated from Vaishali, in a glass enclosure. There are several other relics, brought by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and monks from Thailand, Myanmar, Japan, South Korea and Sri Lanka, kept in various caskets. The meditation centre is based on the plans of the monasteries of Nalanda University. It has 60 cells and one can view the beautiful stupa from each of these. Along with the artefacts, the museum has audio-visual and multimedia presentations about the life and teachings of the Buddha.

Buddhism has long been recognized as a religion of peace and non-violence. In today’s world, various conflicts take place between nations, religions, and ethnic groups. Buddha saw that people can live together freely as individuals, equal in principle, and therefore responsible for each other. Buddha explains that every member of the human family, man and woman alike, has an equal right to liberty. He recognized that each of us is just a human being like everyone else.
