You are reminded that if you are in Christ, you are a new creation. This does not mean you instantly stop struggling or completely lose the influence of your past, but it means God has begun a process of transformation in your life. Just like the believers in Corinth, you may feel tension between the values of the world and the calling of Christ. Your past experiences, habits, and environment may still try to pull you backward while God is leading you forward. Yet this conflict does not mean you are failing; it means God is still shaping and forming you.
You are also encouraged to understand the difference between your humanity and your flesh. Being human is not sinful. Feeling hungry, tired, hurt, fearful, or emotional is part of how God created you. The problem is when the flesh distorts those human experiences into greed, bitterness, pride, lust, anxiety, or selfishness. Instead of condemning yourself simply for being human, you must learn to surrender those struggles to God so He can redeem them. Jesus did not come to teach you how to become God, but to show you how to live as a godly human being who reflects God’s nature and character.
To become the person God intends you to be, you need Jesus in every part of your life. You need His salvation, His principles, His wisdom, and the power of the Holy Spirit. Real transformation cannot happen by willpower alone or through temporary emotions. You must allow your life to be guided by godly principles instead of momentary feelings, and you must rely on God’s strength rather than your own. As you walk with Christ, He renews your mind, restores what is broken, and transforms your humanity into something that reflects His glory.
