🌸 Purushottam Maas (Adhik Maas) 📅 May 17 – June 15, 2026
Hare Krishna 🙏
|| Glories of Adhik Maas — Purushottam Maas ||
Hare Krishna!
Among all months in the Vedic calendar, Adhik Maas, also known as Purushottam Maas, is especially dear to the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Sri Krishna — the Purushottam, the Supreme Person.
This sacred month appears approximately once every three years and is glorified in the Vedic scriptures as a rare opportunity for intensified devotional service, purification of the heart, and spiritual advancement.

The Glory of Purushottam Maas
The Padma Purana explains that this month was once neglected because it had no presiding deity. Feeling dishonoured, the month approached Lord Vishnu for shelter. Out of His infinite compassion, Lord Sri Krishna accepted this month as His own and declared:
> “This month is My very self. Whoever worships Me during this month with devotion will attain special mercy and spiritual benefit.”
Therefore, it became renowned as Purushottam Maa — the month of the Supreme Lord Himself.

Scriptural Understanding
In Srimad Bhagavatam (1.2.17), it is stated:
> śṛṇvatāṁ sva-kathāḥ kṛṣṇaḥ
> puṇya-śravaṇa-kīrtanaḥ
> hṛdy antaḥ stho hy abhadrāṇi
> vidhunoti suhṛt satām
“Śrī Krishna, who is situated in everyone’s heart, cleanses desire for material enjoyment from the heart of the devotee who hears and chants His glories.”
Purushottam Maas especially encourages such hearing (śravaṇam) and chanting (kīrtanam) of the Holy Name and Krishna-katha.
Again, the Bhagavatam (12.3.51) glorifies the chanting of the Holy Name in this age:
> kaler doṣa-nidhe rājann
> asti hy eko mahān guṇaḥ
> kīrtanād eva kṛṣṇasya
> mukta-saṅgaḥ paraṁ vrajet
“Although Kali-yuga is an ocean of faults, there is one great quality — simply by chanting the Holy Name of Krishna, one can become liberated and attain the supreme destination.”

Teachings of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu
In Chaitanya Charitamrita (Adi 17.21), Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu instructed:
> harer nāma harer nāma
> harer nāmaiva kevalam
> kalau nāsty eva nāsty eva
> nāsty eva gatir anyathā
“In this age of Kali there is no other way, no other way, no other way for spiritual perfection than chanting the Holy Name of the Lord.”
Thus, the essence of Purushottam Maas is to increase our sincerity in chanting:
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare

Srila Prabhupada’s Merciful Instructions
Our beloved Founder-Acharya,
A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada repeatedly taught that devotional service performed sincerely, even in small measure, can transform one’s life.
In his purport to Bhagavad-gita 2.40, Srila Prabhupada writes:
> “Even a little advancement on this path can protect one from the most dangerous type of fear.”
Purushottam Maas is therefore a divine opportunity to revive our spiritual determination and deepen our Krishna consciousness through:
• Increased chanting
• Reading Bhagavad-gita and Srimad Bhagavatam
• Attending temple programs
• Vaishnava association
• Serving devotees
• Observing Ekadashi carefully
• Offering lamps and prayers to the Lord
• Simplicity, humility, and self-reflection

📿 THE MOOD OF THIS SACRED MONTH
Purushottam Maas is not merely about ritual observances; it is about sincerely offering our heart to Krishna.
Even a small effort performed with devotion during this month becomes spiritually multiplied by the mercy of the Lord.
A little chanting becomes greatly beneficial.
A little service becomes spiritually significant.
A little sincerity attracts the Lord’s unlimited mercy.

A Humble Prayer
“O Lord Sri Krishna, O Purushottam, kindly engage us in Your devotional service. Please purify our hearts, strengthen our faith, and bless us with attachment to Your Holy Name and the association of devotees.”
May this sacred Purushottam Maas bring all devotees closer to the lotus feet of Sri Sri Radha Krishna and inspire us to advance steadily on the path of bhakti.
In service of Sri Sri Rukmini Krishna,
With best wishes
Devotees of ISKCON Guwahati.
