THE HOOK OF FAITH THIS WEEK

The Feast of Corpus Christ that we celebrate this Sunday is a chance to appreciate the centrality of the Eucharist in the life of the Church as ‘the source and summit’ of the whole Christian life. We have a homily and newsletter quotes. The Pope’s prayer intention for June is ‘for the values of sports’ – a timely message with the approach of the World Cup. We have ten takeaways from Pope Leo’s encyclical ‘Magnifica Humanitas’ and a reflection on ‘Living with Uncertainty’. We include resources for the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on June 12th and an appeal from Trocaire about the urgent situation in the Congo where there has been an outbreak of the Ebola virus. Finally, the ‘Saints in a Year’ series focuses on St Columba, one of the three patron saints of Ireland, whose feast day falls on 9th June. Check out these and other resources available at

‘The Hook of Faith’ is brought to you by ‘FERNS C.A.F.É’ (Catholic Adult Formation and Education) a group in the diocese of Ferns, Ireland who are committed to the work of evangelisation and adult faith formation. It seeks to bring the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to bear on all sect...

Exams 🎓📚📑📝💼

We pray for students across the pastoral area who are currently undergoing examinations. We pray also for their families and their teachers 🙏

Prayer to St Joseph of Cupertino For Success in Exams
Oh Great St. Joseph of Cupertino who while on earth did obtain from God the grace to be asked at your examination only the questions you knew, obtain for me a like favour in the examinations for which I am now preparing. In return I promise to make you known and cause you to be invoked. Through Christ our Lord.
St. Joseph of Cupertino, Pray for us. Amen.

Novena Prayer to the Sacred Heart
4th of June – 12th of June

O Divine Jesus, who said, “Ask and you shall receive”, I kneel at your feet. From whom shall I ask if not from you, whose heart is the source of all blessings. With a lively faith in you, I come to ask… Share your petitions silently with the Sacred Heart. I admit I am most unworthy of your favours, Jesus, but this is not a reason for me to be discouraged.

You are the God of mercies and you will not refuse a contrite heart. Look with pity on me, I beg you, and your compassionate Heart will find in my weakness a motive for granting my request. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have mercy on me. Amen.

Feast of the Sacred Heart:

In Ireland there has been a great devotion to the Sacred Heart. Some of us growing up would remember that in most homes the picture of the sacred heart with the red lamp lit underneath.

Devotion to the Sacred Heart, encouraged by mediaeval mystics and promoted by St Gertrude, St Margaret Mary Alacoque, St John Eudes and others, represents a devotion to Jesus in his human nature, in particular referring to the heart as the seat of the emotions. Next Friday 12th of June is the Feast of the Sacred Heart and the novena prayer is available on the newsletter for you to take with you.

Feast of Corpus Christi – Sunday 7th of June 2026.

The Feast of Corpus Christi is also known as the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, Pope Urban IV declared Corpus Christi a feast day on August 11, 1264. Early Eucharistic festivals were glamorous affairs involving entire towns and cities. Sovereigns and nobles in European Catholic monarchies participated in the celebrations, accompanied by court officials and military officers. Commoners knelt outside their homes as these grand processions walked by. In modern times, Pope John Paul II led annual parades on the feast day, moving from St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican and through the streets of Rome. The Feast of Corpus Christi remains one of the essential celebrations underscoring the fundamental tenets of Christianity and Catholicism.

The annual Corpus Christi Procession, from St. Senan’s Parish Church to St. Aidan’s Cathedral takes place this Sunday 7th of June beginning at 3pm..
