Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Columba (Colum Cille), one of Ireland’s most beloved saints and missionaries.
We remember with particular pride his close connection to Durrow, where he founded the great monastery of Dearmach (Durrow Abbey) in the sixth century. From this sacred place, surrounded by the “Plain of the Oaks,” the light of faith, learning, and prayer spread throughout Ireland and beyond.
As we celebrate the feast of St.Columba today, we are mindful that we stand in a place shaped by the spiritual legacy of St. Columba. His commitment to Christ, his love of prayer, and his dedication to sharing the Gospel continue to inspire our parish community today.
We give thanks for the witness of St. Columba, missionary, scholar, and servant of Christ. May his example encourage us to deepen our faith, cherish our Christian heritage, and share God’s love with all whom we meet.
St. Columba, faithful servant of God, pray for us.
