Extraordinary call for prayer for peace
{Holy Hour directly after this evenings mass}

As you will be aware, Pope Leo XIV is holding a Vigil of Prayer for World Peace in Rome this Saturday April 11th at 6pm.
Bishop Duignan writes to invite and encourage all of our parishes to make mention of Pope Leo XIV’s prayers for world peace during the Celebration of the Eucharist this weekend, to pray for peace at the Weekend Masses, and to arrange for exposition or a period of silent prayer for peace on Saturday evening.
“We must dare peace! Even if the world turns a deaf ear to this appeal, we are certain that God will hear our prayer and the cries of so many who suffer. God wants a world without war. He will free us from this evil!” – Pope Leo XVI, November 10th, 2025
“Almighty and eternal God, whose name is peace and justice. Enter into the hearts of those intent on war and conflict. Direct their thoughts and minds towards the paths of peace. Comfort the victims of war. Draw those who have died into your presence. Hear the prayers of a broken humanity who call out to you in their need.” – Additional Universal Prayer, Good Friday, 2026

Works of Divine Mercy
God Uses the Weak
If you were God, and you had some glorious task you wanted accomplished, who would you choose? Someone with manifest gifts? Or someone who is weak, humble and appears to have very few natural gifts? Surprisingly, God most often chooses the weak for the greatest tasks. This is one way through which He is able to manifest His almighty power (See St Faustina’s Diary #464).
Reflect, today, upon whether you have a high and lofty view of yourself and your abilities. If so, be careful. God has a hard time using someone who thinks this way. Seek to see your lowliness and humble yourself before the glory of God. He wants to use you for great things, but only if you allow Him to be the one who acts in and through you. That way, the glory belongs with Him and the work is accomplished according to His perfect wisdom and is a fruit of His abundant Mercy.
Lord, I offer myself for Your service. Help me to always come to You in humility, acknowledging my weakness and sin. In this humble state, please shine through so that Your glory and power will do great things. Jesus, I trust in You.

God speaks through others
Very often, God wants to speak to You a particular message that you need to hear. It may happen that, as you listen to a homily, read a book, hear something on the radio or talk with a friend, something particular will jump out at you that does not seem to affect others. Pay attention to this inspiration, it is a gift to you of God’s Mercy and a revelation of His love for you (See St Faustina’s Diary #456).
Reflect upon anything, lately, that has gotten your attention. Have you heard something that seemed to be spoken just for you? Is there something that has been on your mind? If so, spend time with that thought and try to discern if it is from the Lord and what He may be saying to you through it. This may be God’s voice speaking to you and an act of His great Mercy.
Lord, I desire to hear Your voice. Help me to be attentive to Your word as it is spoken to me. When You speak, help me to listen and to respond to You with generosity and love. Jesus, I trust in You.

Are you eligible for a community employment scheme? Are you will-ing to build up the parish community of Oughterard? Do you want to see more activities available for our young families and senior citi-zens? The convent school has an opening for a caretaker/operations manager effective immediately.
There is an opening for a convent school caretaker through Forum Connemara, Clifden offices. Their responsibilities will be similar to those found throughout the country for such ventures. Opening and closing the rooms, overseeing the day-to-day operations, showing people where things are and helping them get their activities set up, keeping an eye on the general tidiness, and liaising with the soon-to-be inaugurated board of management and the parish office.

Prayer for Disarmament and Peace
Lord of Life, you shaped every human being in your image and likeness.
We believe you created us for communion, not for war, for fraternity, not for destruction.
You who greeted your disciples saying, “Peace be with you,”
grant us the gift of your peace
and the strength to make it a reality in history.
Today we lift up our prayer for peace in the world, asking that nations renounce weapons
and choose the path of dialogue and diplomacy.
Disarm our hearts of hatred, resentment, and indifference, so we may become instruments of reconciliation.
Help us understand that true security does not come from control fuelled by fear,
but from trust, justice, and solidarity among peoples.
Lord, enlighten the leaders of the nations, so they may have the courage to abandon projects of death, halt the arms race, and place the lives of the most vulnerable at the center.
May the nuclear threat never again dictate the future of humanity.
Holy Spirit,
make us faithful and creative builders of daily peace:
in our hearts, our families,
our communities, and our cities.
May every kind word, every gesture of reconciliation,
and every choice for dialogue be seeds of a new world.
Amen.

Easter Sunday, the Pope stressed the peace that Jesus gives us is not merely the silence of weapons, but the peace that touches and transforms the heart of each one of us. Action must be joined by prayer.
For that reason, the Prayer Vigil on Saturday will be led by the themes of peace and hope as people around the world join the Holy Father in praying the Glorious mysteries of the Rosary with meditations from various Church Fathers, including St. Augustine of Hippo, St. John Chrysostom, and St. Ambrose of Milan.
