With great sadness we announce the death of our Capuchin confrere, Br. Padráig O'Cuill OFM Cap. Br Padráig joined the Capuchin Order in 1957 and was ordained to the Priesthood in 1967. During his years as a Capuchin Friar, Padráig ministered as an Irish language teacher, hospital chaplain and chaplain to Dublin Port and Docks. For many years he served as the Archivist for the Irish Capuchin Province.

Br. Padráig died peacefully in Beaumont Hospital this morning (04/02/2026) following a short illness. Padráig was a kind, helpful and cheerful man who often caused howls of laughter with his quick wit and razor sharp sense of humour. He will be very much missed in the Capuchin Friary Raheny and beyond.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.

We have an upcoming coffee morning for men interested in our Capuchin way of life. Some answers to questions we are often asked:

1. The upper age limit for joining the Irish Capuchin Friars is 40 years of age

2. To follow a vocation as a brother or priest in the Catholic Church, a person must be baptised in the Catholic Church, they must be actively practicing their faith and they must be free to join a religious Order i.e. they must not be married or in any committed relationship.

3. We live a community based life. This means we share all we have and all we are with each other. We pray together, eat together and share the blessings and challenges of our Capuchin life together.

You can find out more about us on our website: www.capuchinfranciscans.ie/vocations

If you think that this vocation experience may be of help to your discernment, please email [email protected] to find out more.
