VOLUNTEER SUPPORT

The Irish Cancer Society is seeking compassionate volunteer
drivers to join our pool of drivers. As a volunteer driver you would
be bringing patients undergoing chemotherapy to the hospital and
back home for their treatment. Gifting your time means that
cancer patients will have comfortable (one on one) transport to
attend appointments for their lifesaving treatment.

If you can spare 2 days per month, have a valid driving licence, and
a safe, reliable vehicle, you are the perfect candidate to make a
significant difference. The Irish Cancer Society will provide you
with training before you start as a driver for us. Your generosity
not only eases the journey for many during a challenging time but
also offers comfort and support when it's needed most.

The feedback we receive from patients that have relied on the
Transport Service in the past is heart-warming and underlines the
need of its existence. We would be extremely grateful for your
support, as it will help us to continue supporting those who are
impacted by cancer.

We are very sorry to hear the passing of one of our young teachers in our parish Shauna Hennigan, Ballyloskey, Carndonagh who taught in Rashenny school. Our thoughts are with her family and colleagues and husband Conor Hession from Clonmany may she rest in peace.

The death has occurred of

Shauna Hennigan

Ballyloskey, Carndonagh, Co. Donegal, peacefully at Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, on 1st September 2026 after a short illness, surrounded by her loving family.

Heartbroken by her passing are her beloved husband Conor Hession, her parents Marian and Michael Hennigan, her brother Mark and her grandmother Mary Bonner.

Predeceased by her grandparents Frank and Bridie Hennigan and Patrick Bonner, her aunt Annemarie Gallagher and her uncle Shaun Hennigan.

Deeply regretted and sadly missed by her aunts and uncles Margaret Kelly (Conor), Pat Bonner (Helen), Anthony Bonner (Aingeal), Michael Bonner (Christine) and Kevin Bonner (Adele), her extended family and friends, her colleagues and pupils at Holy Family National School, Rathcoole, Dublin, her colleagues at Rasheeny National School, Rasheeny, Co. Donegal, and the broader teaching community.

May Shauna Rest In Peace.

Shauna's remains will repose at her home in Ballyloskey, Carndonagh (F93 E781) on Thursday (3rd September) from 3pm to 10pm and on Friday (4th September) from 12 noon to 10pm where you are all welcome to pay your respects.

Family time outside of these hours and on the morning of the funeral.

Funeral from her home on Saturday (5th September) at 10.30am for 11am Requiem Mass in Sacred Heart Church, Carndonagh, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

St. Carlo Acutis Day of Prayer 📅 SAVE THE DATE 📅

You are invited to come to St. Eugene’s Cathedral, Derry on Sunday 11th October from 2.00pm where we will have Veneration of a First Class Relic of St. Carlo Acutis, gifted to the Cathedral by Carlo’s mother, Antonia.

The Sacrament of Confession will be available from 2.00pm until Mass at 7.00pm, which will be celebrated by Bishop Michael Router.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take place in the Mother Teresa Chapel during the Celebrations. A short film on Carlo’s life will be shown in the Conference Room.

❤️ Could you spare a little of your time to make a very big difference to someone locally?

ALONE is currently seeking volunteers in Clonmany and the surrounding areas to help support older people who may be experiencing loneliness, isolation or simply missing that regular connection with someone in their community.

Sometimes we underestimate just how much a friendly face, a conversation over a cup of tea or a regular phone call can mean to someone.

For an older person who may spend much of their week alone, your visit or your voice could genuinely become something they look forward to. ❤️

ALONE has a number of volunteering opportunities, including:

🤝 Visitation Support & Befriending
Regularly visiting an older person, offering friendship, conversation and companionship.

☎️ Telephone Support & Befriending
Keeping in touch with older people through regular friendly telephone calls.

❤️ National Support & Referral Line
Being that friendly, supportive voice at the other end of the phone when an older person reaches out for help or simply needs someone to listen.

You don't need to do something extraordinary.

Sometimes being there, listening and giving someone your time is enough.

If you've ever thought about volunteering and would like to do something that could make a real difference to an older person in our own community, please consider getting involved.
