We arrived in Lourdes last night with almost 300 pilgrims from our two Diocese of Achonry and Elphin, including almost 40 assisted pilgrims and just over 40 young adult volunteers, not to mention our medical and nursing team; our handmaid and brancardiers, priests and religious.

We are very conscious of the privilege it is for us to be here in this holy place.

Part of our mission in these days will be to pray for all of you at home, and especially for all who are sick, frail or troubled in any way. May Mary, who crossed the hill country of Judea, to bring good news to her cousin Elizabeth, be with each of us on his or her own pilgrimage.

This morning we gathered in the underground Basilica of Pius X for morning Mass to formally begin our pilgrimage. Bishop Kevin Doran was main celebrant with 10 priests concelebrating, Fr. John Deignan preached at the Mass and set the tone for the days ahead. The youth pilgrims did us proud with their beautiful singing and music.

In the afternoon Fr. Laurence Cullen led the more active pilgrims through the high stations and Fr. Eugene Mc Loughlin led the low stations.

Tonight we will join in the beautiful and moving candlelit Marian procession through the grotto. I will share some photos later tonight.

As the fifth day of our Novena draws to a close, we look forward to welcoming you all to Knock Shrine again tomorrow.

Our guest speaker for Tuesday, August 18th is Mario Nunis, a former member of our Volunteers at Knock Shrine (VAKS) programme.

Mario will share his personal story of faith and how it continues to shape his life through his involvement with the Legion of Mary, Shalom and FOCUS.

Join us for our ceremonies at 3pm and 8pm.

Meet at the Information Centre at 11am to join your tour guide. All tours include a visit to Knock Museum.
