*SANCTIFY YOURSELF*

_*After these things had been done, the leaders came to me and said, "The people of Isracl, including the priests and the Levites, have not kept themselves separate from the neighbouring peoples with their detestable practices, like those of the Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians and Amorites (Ezra 9:1).*_

For anyone that God wants to use in any significant way, He always calls for that person to sanctify him or herself. Whenever God is preparing His people for a major visitation into their lives, He always calls to them to sanctify themselves. Whenever God wants to move His people into a new, higher and glorious level of their lives, He always calls for them to sanctify themselves.

This is because our God is a holy God. (Leviticus 11:44. He lives in a holy place. Isaiah 57:15). He calls His people to be holy like He is holy. (1 Peter 1:15-16).

The people of God are not to live like the "Canaanites, Hittites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians and Amorites". Even though God did not hate these people, their culture and way of life were contrary to the holiness of God. They were idolatrous. They were sexually immoral, incestuous, homosexual and unclean. They were corrupt, unrighteous and filthy. God's people were to be separate from them, in worship, in thinking, in attitude, in behaviour and in everything.

Whenever the people of God refused to sanctify themselves, and lived like these people lived, God withdraws His holy presence and they suffer greatly because their defence is gone from them.
The situation has not changed any bit. God is still holy, eternally holy. The people of the world are still unrighteous, ungodly, and unholy. God still wants His own people to be separate from the world, and be holy unto Him.

When you refuse to sanctify yourself to the Lord and be holy, you lose the glory of God's presence, you miss out of God's glorious visitation, and you expose yourself to suffer the same troubles that the world suffers. Above all these, you lose your capacity to be God's ambassador and God's witness to a world in sin. Is it really worth it?

It is time for us to separate ourselves to the Lord and be truly holy in our hearts, in our lives, in our words, and in our spiritual worship.

God is calling us to be separate from the world, to be separate from sin and to consecrate our lives totally unto Him. Do it today with joy and the peace of God that passes all understanding shall flood your entire life.

_*Therefore, come out from them and separate yourselves from them, says the Lord. Don't touch their filthy things, and I will welcome you. And I will be your Father, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty (2 Corinthians 6:17-18).*_

*PRAYER POINTS*

■ Give thanks to God for His awesome holiness.
■ Decide within you to separate yourself from the filth of this world. Ask the Lord for His help.
■ Consecrate yourself totally to God, to live for Him for the rest of your life.
■ Ask the Lord to break and destroy the power of sin over your life.

*TRUE REPENTANCE REMOVES GUILT*

_*From the days of our forefathers until now, our guilt has been great. Because of our sins... (Ezra 9:7).*_

Guilt is real. It can weigh people down. It can bring people into depression. It can drive people to commit su***de. If guilt is not addressed it will lead to hell.

Guilt comes as a result of sin. When people sin they become guilty. And you do not need to break all of God's laws to become guilty. Apostle James wrote: _*"For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all" (James 2:10).*_

Some people are so tender in their conscience that the slightest act of sin or error makes their conscience to quiver and they are repenting before God. Some others are hardened in sin and iniquities "speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;" (1 Timothy 4:2). To them it does not matter what they do: life goes on. To such people the fearful day of judgement will be a day of horrow indeed, except they truly repent.

In the real sense of the word, all humans have a twofold problem with sin. Because we are sinners at birth, having the sinful nature of Adam, we are dominated by sin even before we were born (Psalm 51:5, 58:3). This makes all men guilty before God and in need of redemption.

Then we grow up as children and began to lie, to cheat, to be selfish, and we grow up to practise sin and live a life of iniquity and stand guilty before God. So, we are sinners by nature, and sinners by practice. Therefore we are doubly guilty before a holy God. The bible is clear on this:

"If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves
and the truth is not in us" 1 John 1:8.

God, seeing our predicament with sin provided a way of escape for all mankind.

In the Old Testament time, they were to offer the blood of sinless animals. The animals took their place, and its blood covered their sins.

But because man is not a sheep or goat, the blood of sheep or goat could only cover his sins, it has no power to take it away.

Then God sent Jesus Christ His son. He came in human form. He did not partake of the nature of Adam. He was the seed of the woman as God promised. Genesis 3:15. He did not commit any sin. But He went to the Cross at Calvary as God's perfect sacrifice for our sins. He carried our guilt on Himself.

Today, if anyone truly repents of the sin in his or her life and trusts in Jesus Christ for salvation, their sin shall be forgiven, the sin is blotted out totally, and the guilt is taken away forever.

When you truly repent and give your entire life to Christ, you are free from the guilt, and the power of sin. You can then "go and sin no more" living
a life of dominion.

_*There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit (Romans 8:1).*_

*PRAYER POINTS*

■ Give thanks to God for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ His Son.

■ Repent truly of every sin in your life, ask God to forgive you.

■ Ask the blood of Jesus to purge and take your sins away.

■ Ask the Lord to free you from every guilt.

■ Give thanks to God for the salvation of your soul.

*NO COMPROMISE*

_*The enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that the exiles were rebuilding a Temple to the LORD, the God of Israel So they approached Zerubbabel and the other leaders and said, "Let us build with you, for we worship your God just as you do. We have sacrificed to him ever since King Esarhaddon of Assyria brought us here (Ezra 4:1-2 NLT).*_

There are many ways the enemy of our souls tries to lure us into compromise. Either to compromise our faith and conviction, to compromise our holiness and testimonies, to compromise on our authority as believers and the great promises God has given us or to compromise our commitment to preach the gospel of Christ.

The purpose of compromise is always to weaken us, to rob us of victory or joy and to make us ineffective in our Christian faith. As a believer in Christ, you must always say a firm 'NO' to every move of the enemy to compromise you in anyway and to maintain your stand as a true child of God.

In our text of today, the people of God just returned from exile and they were rebuilding the temple at Jerusalem. This was a very sacred duty. The enemy, seeing he couldn't stop them, sent his children to join them, so as to act as the fifth column
enemy within and to defeat them. The people of God said no!

_*But Zerubabbel, Jeshua, and the other leaders of Israel replied, "You may have no part in this work. We alone will build the Temple for the Lord, the God of Israel, just as King Cyrus of Persia commanded us (Ezra 4:3 NLT)*_

In what way is the enemy trying to compromise you?
Your purity?
Your commitment to avoid sexual immorality?
Your commitment to pay your tithe?
Your commitment never to take or give bribe?
Your commitment to preach the gospel, whether it is convenient or not?
Your commitment to serve the Lord. Don't yield to the enemy in anyway. The bible says, you should "resist the devil, and he will flee from you".
It is well with you.

*PRAYER POINTS*

■ Give thanks to God for the ability to overcome the devil.
■ Rebuke the enemy in whatever area of your life, he is trying to put his hand in the name of Jesus.
■ Rededicate yourself wholly to the Lord, not to yield to temptations.
