讓我們繼續來默想「平穩和完整地」看待生命的重要性。我認為,不是基督徒的人不能完整地看待生命。為甚麼呢?因為他們只在自然的層面來思考,這樣怎能有一個全面的態度去看待生命?我們該知道,自然性的思考只是片面而不是完整的。

以醫藥為例,上一個年代的醫生一般都只是診治病人所提及的病徵,但是現在他們自理解精神對身體健康有多大的影響以後,就知道這種做法不夠全面。一位醫生說:「醫學界終於發現病人本身才是重要焦點。」今天的醫藥正在迅速的朝「全人」方向發展,因為越來越多醫生逐漸明白他們不能只診治表徵,必須醫治病人本身,可惜直至目前為止他們仍未能全然考慮到人的靈性因素,希望那是指日可待的事。

基督教在心理輔導業方面也面對同一個問題,那就是他們沒有看到整幅的圖畫。我對一部份基督教的心理輔導書籍感到相當失望,因為它們只提出問題的一面,從而建議採用某一種特別技巧,以為這便能把問題解決。可是,神所創造的人本是完整的,所以除非人的每一部分都得到醫治,包括靈、魂和身體,否則他永遠都不能恢復完整。神要恢復祂在我們裡面的形象:不只是一個部分,而是完整的我們。

Message
We continue meditating on the importance of looking at life "steadily and whole". I venture to suggest that people who are not Christians are unable to see life as a whole. How can they, when their thinking takes place only on the level of the natural? Natural thinking is notoriously partial and incomplete.

Take, for example, the field of medicine. A generation ago doctors treated the symptoms that people presented to them, but now, with a clearer understanding of how the mind affects physical health, they have come to see that this approach was partial. One doctor said: "At long last the medical profession has discovered that the patient himself is important." Medicine is fast moving towards what is described as a "holistic" approach as more and more doctors begin to realise that it is not enough to treat the problem, we must also treat the person. They are still far from seeing that there is also a spiritual element in the person that has to be considered, but perhaps in time that will come.

Christian counselling suffers from the same problem - it does not see the whole picture. I am tired of reading books on Christian counselling that give just one side of the issue and suggest that problems can be resolved by applying one special technique. Man was created as a whole person and he will never be helped back to wholeness unless every part of his being is treated - spirit, soul and body. God wants to restore His image in us: not in part of us but in the whole.

Prayer
O Father, forgive us that so often we settle for the half view of things rather than the whole. Quicken my spiritual understanding so that I have Your view on all things - the "whole" view. In Jesus' Name I ask it. Amen.

聖靈所結的果子,就是仁愛、喜樂、和平、忍耐、恩慈、良善、信實、溫柔、節制。這樣的事沒有律法禁止。

不久前與一位朋友談話。她剛失戀,但很快又投入新的戀情。我問她:「為什麼這麼快就開始新的感情呢?」她回答:「因為有了新的戀愛,就能很快放下舊的,不再去想它。」我追問:「那麼,你有想清楚這段新的感情是否可靠嗎?」她說:「我也不確定,只是覺得他好像是我想要的對象。」

在交談中,我明白她對每一次的戀情都很認真、很投入,但結果卻總是「無花果」——沒有真正的成果。於是我提醒她:「為什麼不先停一停,想清楚上一段感情失敗的原因,學習了再開始新的呢?」她回答:「主要是我越來越沒有自信,加上年紀漸長,擔心失去青春,就更難遇到好姻緣。」我告訴她:「外在的青春固然重要,但真正能吸引人、讓感情堅固的,其實是內在美。」

那麼,什麼才使婚姻和感情得以維繫呢?是外表的美麗嗎?但青春不會長久啊。是財富嗎?但金錢只能維持表面的關係,婚姻若像交易,終究不可靠。我認為,真正能使感情穩固的,是切實的相愛,是從心而發的真誠投入。而這份愛,正是聖靈所結的果子。

今天的經文提醒我們,聖靈的果子包括仁愛、喜樂、和平、忍耐、恩慈、良善、信實、溫柔、節制。請留意,這些果子不是外在裝飾,不是買來、借來或掛上去的,而是從生命中自然結出的,是屬於你自己的。當一個人生命中有了這些果子,他的愛情、婚姻、家庭就會更加美滿幸福。

朋友,你相信聖靈的大能嗎?試著讓聖靈在你生命中工作,結出祂的果子,你就會經歷真正的愛與幸福。

完整地看待生命

「……有人問你們心中盼望的緣由,就要常作準備……」(15節)

彼得前書三13-22

13你們若是熱心行善,有誰害你們呢?

14你們就是為義受苦,也是有福的。不要怕人的威嚇(或作:所怕的),也不要驚慌;

15只要心裡尊主基督為聖。有人問你們心中盼望的緣由,就要常作準備,以溫柔、敬畏的心回答各人;

16存著無虧的良心,叫你們在何事上被毀謗,就在何事上可以叫那誣賴你們在基督裡有好品行的人自覺羞愧。

17神的旨意若是叫你們因行善受苦,總強如因行惡受苦。

18因基督也曾一次為罪受苦(有古卷作:受死),就是義的代替不義的,為要引我們到神面前。按著肉體說,他被治死;按著靈性說,他復活了。

19他藉這靈曾去傳道給那些在監獄裡的靈聽,

20就是那從前在挪亞預備方舟、神容忍等待的時候,不信從的人。當時進入方舟,藉著水得救的不多,只有八個人。

21這水所表明的洗禮,現在藉著耶穌基督復活也拯救你們;這洗禮本不在乎除掉肉體的污穢,只求在神面前有無虧的良心。

22耶穌已經進入天堂,在神的右邊;眾天使和有權柄的,並有能力的,都服從了他。

作為基督徒,我們不要忘記一點,就是聖經的信息主要是讓我們能夠理解;它讓我們明白生命,也因著聖經,我們知道心裡的盼望是有緣由的。

詩人尋獲這真理。在聖所他明白自己感覺的由來,他不是暫時的提升,僅僅維持幾小時或幾天,而是得到終身受用的解決辦法。事實上,是這經歷促使他能夠寫下我們現在每天都在研讀的這篇詩篇。「思想他們的結局」(詩七十三17),這句子表示在此之前他並沒有正確地思想。他以前是從片面和不完整的角度去看事物,但現在「在聖所裡」他開始看見整幅圖畫,他說:「然後我明白。」這指的是甚麼時候?就是他來到聖所的時候。

阿諾德(Matthew Arnold)的著作有一句話說:「誰平穩地看生命,便能看到生命的整體。」這是多麼令人興奮的話。沒有甚麼比能夠平穩和完整地看待生命更美好。我們生命中很多內在的混亂都是因為我們沒有去看生命的整體。有人將偏見定義為「只看到你想看的東西」。有偏見的人說:「我總是這樣看。」那正是他們的問題──他們的雙眼只專注於事情的一個角度,不讓自己看到其他的部分。

Seeing life whole

"...Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have..." (v.15)

13 Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good?

14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. "Do not fear their threats[a]; do not be frightened."[b]

15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

16 keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.

17 For it is better, if it is God's will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.

18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.

19 After being made alive,[c] he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits—

20 to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water,

Message
As Christians we ought never to forget that the message of the Bible is addressed primarily to the understanding; it enables us to understand life. Because of the Bible, we are able to give a reason for the hope that is within us.

The psalmist found the truth of this. In the sanctuary he discovered an explanation for the way that he felt. He was not given a temporary lift that would stay with him for a few hours or a few days - he was given a solution that would stay with him for the rest of his life. It was this, in fact, that caused him to write the psalm we are focusing upon day by day. The words: "Then I understood their final destiny" (Psa. 73:17) suggest that previously he had not been thinking correctly. He had been seeing things from a partial and incomplete perspective, but now "in the sanctuary" he began to see the whole picture: "Then I understood". When? Then - when he came into the sanctuary.

There is a line in one of Matthew Arnold's writings that goes like this: "Who saw life steadily, and saw it whole." What a delightful phrase this is. Nothing can be more wonderful than to see life steadily and to see it whole. Much of the inner turmoil we go through in life comes about because we do not see life as a whole. Prejudice has been defined as "seeing only what you want to see". People who are prejudiced say: "I have always seen it that way." That's their problem - their eyes are fixed on just one facet of an issue and they will not allow themselves to look at the other sides.

Prayer
O Father, help me, for I don't want to be in bo***ge to prejudice or bigotry - I want to see life whole. We must work this issue out together over these next few days, for apart from You I can do nothing. Help me, Father. Amen.

加拉太書5:13-14

弟兄們,你們蒙召是要得自由,只是不可將你們的自由當作放縱情慾的機會,總要用愛心互相服事。因為全律法都包在「愛人如己」這一句話之內了。

有時候乘坐地鐵,最討厭遇到那些坐下來便把雙腿大大張開的人;他們一個人佔據三個座位,令人非常困擾。對他來說,這樣坐很舒服,但卻令旁邊的乘客十分難受。這種行為表面上是「自由」,實際上卻是自私,因為它犧牲了別人的空間來滿足自己的舒適。

今天的經文提醒我們,雖然在基督裏我們得著自由,但這份自由必須謹慎使用。若用得合宜,自由能帶來祝福;若錯用自由,放縱情慾,則會帶來傷害,甚至使人跌倒。

在人類的生活中,我們彼此相依,也常彼此排斥。當你想要賺錢,你必須依靠別人的存在,才能獲得利益,得以過上有質素的生活。然而在追求成功的過程中,卻往往犧牲了與朋友的感情、與家人的相處。等到功成利就,卻發現自己比從前更加孤單。

因此,保羅提醒信徒:「總要用愛心互相服事。」律法的精神正是「愛人如己」。自由不是用來滿足自私的欲望,而是用來彼此服事、彼此成全。唯有如此,我們才能真正享受自由的好處,不僅造福他人,更能榮耀神。

「……若有甚麼德行,若有甚麼稱讚,這些事你們都要思念。」(8節)

2我勸友阿爹和循都基,要在主裡同心。

3我也求你這真實同負一軛的,幫助這兩個女人,因為他們在福音上曾與我一同勞苦;還有革利免,並其餘和我一同作工的,他們的名字都在生命冊上。

4你們要靠主常常喜樂。我再說,你們要喜樂。

5當叫眾人知道你們謙讓的心。主已經近了。

6應當一無掛慮,只要凡事藉著禱告、祈求,和感謝,將你們所要的告訴神。

7神所賜、出人意外的平安必在基督耶穌裡保守你們的心懷意念。

8弟兄們,我還有未盡的話:凡是真實的、可敬的、公義的、清潔的、可愛的、有美名的,若有甚麼德行,若有甚麼稱讚,這些事你們都要思念。

9你們在我身上所學習的,所領受的,所聽見的,所看見的,這些事你們都要去行,賜平安的神就必與你們同在。

讓我們繼續來看詩人進入聖所後生命所發生的重大改變。重要的是,我們必須明白帶來改變的不是進入聖所這個動作,雖然那很重要,但還有一些更重要的事情發生了。請再次聽詩人怎麼說:「等我進了神的聖所,思想他們的結局」(詩七十三17)。要留意這裡使用了「思想」這兩個字,其實英文聖經的翻譯是「理解了」(understood)。來到神的跟前,詩人對事情有了清晰的理解。這是十分重要的一點,是要加以強調的;他在聖所不僅僅是找到良好的感覺,他得到了新的領悟,糾正了自己的思想,不是只暫時忘記自己的問題,而是找到徹底的解決辦法。

很多基督徒對神的家或基督徒團契的看法,認為它是一個讓我們能夠暫時忘記個人煩惱的好地方, 因為他們能夠從音樂和詩歌裡面得到安慰。有些教會由於外觀美麗,以至大家在離開時說:「每次來到教會的感覺都很好。」

當然,這沒有甚麼不妥,但真正的問題是:他們的思想有沒有被改變?詩人並沒有被聖殿的建築設計所改變,而是當他的思想向著正確方向的時候,他才獲得了改變:他「思想(理解)他們的結局。」要是信心的操練只是為了取得感情上的滿足,而不能讓我們對神有更深切的認識的話,那麼我們就會變成一個失去平衡的基督徒了。

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Message
We continue to look at the dramatic change in the life of the psalmist when he entered into the sanctuary. It is important to realise that it was not merely the physical act of entering the sanctuary that brought about change. That was important, but something else happened that was even more important. Listen again to how he puts it: "[When] I entered the sanctuary...then I understood their final destiny" (Psa. 73:17). The word to note is "understood". In the presence of God the psalmist was given clear understanding. This is an extremely important point and one which cannot be emphasised too strongly: what he found in the sanctuary was not merely a nice feeling but a new understanding. He was put right in his thinking. He did not merely forget his problem for a little while - he found a solution.

The idea that many Christians have of the house of God or Christian fellowship is that it is a good place to go in order to forget one's troubles for a while. They are soothed by the music and the singing, or perhaps, in some churches, by the beauty of the architecture, and they come away saying, "What a lovely feeling I get whenever I go to church."

There is nothing wrong with that as far as it goes, of course, but the real issue is this: has anything happened to their minds? The psalmist was not changed by the architecture of the Temple, he was changed when his thinking was put right: "Then I understood their final destiny." If the practice of our faith does nothing more than excite our emotions and fails to give us a better understanding of God and His ways, then we will be lop-sided Christians.

O Father, save me from becoming a lop-sided Christian. Give me not only joy to thrill my emotions but understanding to guide my intellect. In Jesus' Name I ask it. Amen.

加拉太書5:1

基督釋放了我們,叫我們得以自由。所以要站立得穩,不要再被奴僕的軛挾制。

俗語說:「狗所吐的,牠轉過來又吃;豬洗淨了,又回到泥裏去滾。」若你曾養過豬或狗,就會發現牠們的本性難移。豬雖被洗乾淨,一轉身就忍不住回到泥水裏打滾。狗也一樣,牠把自己吐出來的東西,吃得乾乾淨淨。這是牠們的天性。

然而,人並不是豬,也不是狗。為什麼有些人明明痛恨過去的錯誤,卻戒了又犯?為什麼有人剛從監獄出來,立志「重新做人」,卻又再度犯罪?為什麼有些人知錯能改,而另一些人卻一錯再錯?關鍵在於「內在生命」是否真正被改變。若內在仍是「舊生命」,就像豬的本性,即使外表洗淨,仍會回到泥濘裏。唯有生命被徹底更新,才會有不同的選擇。

同樣地,如果你的內在生命更新了,有聖靈的同在,就會渴望過聖潔的生活。即使偶然跌倒犯罪,良心也會受責備,因為你已是屬靈的人,心中喜愛的是屬靈的事,就是榮耀神、造就人。

今天的經文提醒我們:基督已釋放我們,使我們得以自由,不再受罪的轄制。既然生命已得釋放,就要靠著聖靈站立得穩,不再回到舊有的捆綁,不再成為罪的奴僕。

朋友,若你已在基督裏得著自由,就要持守這份自由,靠著聖靈過新生活。因為真正的自由,不是放縱,而是能在基督裏選擇聖潔,活出榮神益人的生命。

「你們當以基督耶穌的心為心。」(5節)

6他本有神的形像,不以自己與神同等為強奪的;

7反倒虛己,取了奴僕的形像,成為人的樣式;

8既有人的樣子,就自己卑微,存心順服,以至於死,且死在十字架上。

9所以,神將他升為至高,又賜給他那超乎萬名之上的名,

10叫一切在天上的、地上的,和地底下的,因耶穌的名無不屈膝,

11無不口稱耶穌基督為主,使榮耀歸與父神。

今天,我們要繼續思想一個非常重要的真理──學習以屬靈角度來思考。有時候聽到一些基督徒在一起討論地上和天上的事情,我會覺得這是很有趣的事。以政治為例,當討論這個課題時,很多基督徒幾乎馬上把基督教信仰放在一旁,並且帶出了所有慣常使用的偏見和世俗的論據。

這告訴了我們甚麼?它指出一個極須打破的觀念,那就是我們總認為生命是可以任意從自然和屬靈兩個層面來看待的。事實上,基督徒必須學習從屬靈角度來看一切事物,否則便會落入和詩人相同的困境中。偉大的佈道家司布真(C.H. Spurgeon)曾經提醒一班神學生說,在他們開始加入事奉後,要是發覺大家在教會的禱告會上好像天使那樣禱告,而在教會事務會議中卻好像魔鬼那樣行動的話,不需要感到驚訝。不幸的是,教會的歷史證實了他的這句話。

怎麼會這樣呢?這是因為在禱告會的時候,人的思想是屬靈的,可是在事務會議上,他們又回復了人性的想法,那就是人的偏見和世俗的假設。他們之間有黨派的成見,只要遇到攻擊,黨派的精神就會出現。但是今天的經文清楚指出,我們的主是從屬靈角度來看一切事物,因而在面對重大考驗的時候,祂能夠說:「然而不要成就我的意思,只要成就你的意思」(路二十二42)。

Message
We continue meditating on the importance of learning to think spiritually. It is sometimes interesting to listen to Christians discussing together both earthly and heavenly issues. Take politics, for example. When involved in a discussion on this subject, many Christians seem to put their Christianity on one side and bring out all the prejudices and worldly arguments which they have been accustomed to use over the years.

What does this say to us? It reveals the great need we have to break with the idea that life can be viewed on two levels - the natural and the spiritual. The Christian must learn to view everything from a spiritual viewpoint or otherwise he will fall prey to the same problems that the psalmist had. The great preacher CH Spurgeon once told a group of theological students that after they entered the ministry they should not be surprised to find that people who prayed like angels in a church prayer meeting could act like devils in a church business meeting. Unfortunately the history of the Church proves his statement to be true.

How can this happen? It's because in a prayer meeting people think spiritually, but in a business meeting they revert to their natural thinking, with all its prejudices and worldly assumptions. They have a party spirit within them and as soon as any one bumps against them - out it comes. Our Lord, as our text for today shows so clearly, saw everything from a spiritual point of view. This is why, in the hour of overwhelming testing, He was able to say: "Not my will, but yours be done" (Luke 22:42).

Prayer
My Father and my God, forgive me that so often my thinking is based on natural, rather than spiritual, perspectives. I think spiritually about some matters, but not all. Help me, dear Lord. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

加拉太書4:15-16

你們當日所誇的福氣在哪裏呢?那時,你們若能行,就是把自己的眼睛剜出來給我也都情願,這是我可以給你們作見證的。如今我將真理告訴你們,就成了你們的仇敵嗎?

這段經文可以分為兩部份來理解:
1. 經文的前半段:「那時你們若能行,就是把自己的眼睛剜出來給我,也都情願。」
這顯示加拉太教會當初對保羅極其友好,不論是公事或私底下,他們都視保羅比親人更親近。因保羅患有眼疾,他們不僅悉心照顧,甚至毫無保留地奉獻支持。由此可見,保羅在加拉太的事奉曾得到充份肯定。

2. 經文的後半段:「如今我將真理告訴你們,就成了你們的仇敵嗎?」
這裏顯出截然不同的語氣。保羅指出,加拉太人雖然充滿愛心,但對信仰的認識卻十分薄弱。他們的愛心建立在私人感情上,而不是在真理的根基上。結果,他們除了熱情接待保羅,也同樣接納其他人,不論對方是否宣講純正的福音、是否高舉基督的救恩,只要看起來是「好人」,他們就聽從並接納。這正是保羅認為必須立刻糾正的嚴重問題。

然而,加拉太人卻感到受委屈,他們自覺待保羅很好,卻反被責備,心裏自然不快,甚至差點與保羅翻臉。但保羅因著真正的愛心,更因尊榮神的緣故,不能視而不見,只能直言指出。

各位,你是否也曾陷入這樣的兩難中呢?有人說「講錢失感情」,也有人說「坦白失感情」。到底該如何抉擇呢?保羅的選擇是:尊榮神才是唯一的重點。感謝主,加拉太教會最終聽從了教導,而保羅也耐心地向他們詳細解釋基督的福音,使他們重新站立在真理上。

真正的感情必須建立在坦誠互動之上,更要以榮耀基督為前提。唯有如此,彼此才能在愛中互相尊重、互相扶持。

6耶和華說:到那日,我必聚集瘸腿的,招聚被趕出的和我所懲治的。

7我必使瘸腿的為餘剩之民,使趕到遠方的為強盛之民。耶和華要在錫安山作王治理他們,從今直到永遠。

8你這羊群的高臺、錫安城(原文是女子)的山哪,從前的權柄─就是耶路撒冷民(原文是女子)的國權─必歸與你。

9現在你為何大聲哭號呢?疼痛抓住你彷彿產難的婦人,是因你中間沒有君王嗎?你的謀士滅亡了嗎?

10錫安的民(原文是女子)哪,你要疼痛劬勞,彷彿產難的婦人;因為你必從城裡出來,住在田野,到巴比倫去。在那裡要蒙解救;在那裡耶和華必救贖你脫離仇敵的手。

11現在有許多國的民聚集攻擊你,說:願錫安被玷污!願我們親眼見他遭報!

12他們卻不知道耶和華的意念,也不明白他的籌劃。他聚集他們,好像把禾捆聚到禾場一樣。

13錫安的民(原文作女子)哪,起來踹穀吧!我必使你的角成為鐵,使你的蹄成為銅。你必打碎多國的民,將他們的財獻與耶和華,將他們的貨獻與普天下的主。

昨天我們結束時說:「生命的問題和困難基本上全都是屬靈的。」這究竟是甚麼意思?讓我們再次來思想詩篇七十三篇詩人的問題。他對自己說:「為甚麼神容許不敬虔的人興盛,敬虔的人卻要經歷重大考驗和艱辛?」他嘗試去了解神的方法,但是感到相當困難。

這個問題只有一個答案,就是在以賽亞書五十五章8節:「耶和華說,我的意念非同你們的意念;我的道路非同你們的道路。」無論我們怎麼理解神的道路,這些經文給我們最終的答案是:全能者的行動是高過並且超過我們所能理解的。這就彷彿神在對我們說:「你們不能以自然的眼光來看待我的道路,否則便會感到迷惘失措。我的行動高過自然的層次,你們若想明白我,就必須也上到這個層次來。」

不過,哪怕是一些資深的基督徒,都往往會堅持以自然的方式來面對生命的境況。自然思想和屬靈思想的分別是天和地之間的區別。當我們對生命的處境感到迷惘時,第一件要做的事情是問自己:「我是以自然的還是屬靈的角度來看這件事呢?我有沒有不自覺地回到自然的思想方式去?」我們越學會以屬靈的角度來思考生命的問題,就越不會感到困惑。

7 I will make the lame my remnant, those driven away a strong nation. The Lord will rule over them in Mount Zion from that day and forever.

8 As for you, watchtower of the flock, stronghold[a] of Daughter Zion, the former dominion will be restored to you; kingship will come to Daughter Jerusalem."

9 Why do you now cry aloud—have you no king[b]? Has your ruler[c] perished, that pain seizes you like that of a woman in labor?

10 Writhe in agony, Daughter Zion, like a woman in labor, for now you must leave the city to camp in the open field. You will go to Babylon; there you will be rescued. There the Lord will redeem you out of the hand of your enemies.

11 But now many nations are gathered against you. They say, "Let her be defiled, let our eyes gloat over Zion!"

12 But they do not know the thoughts of the Lord; they do not understand his plan, that he has gathered them like sheaves to the threshing floor.

13 "Rise and thresh, Daughter Zion, for I will give you horns of iron; I will give you hooves of bronze, and you will break to pieces many nations." You will devote their ill-gotten gains to the Lord, their wealth to the Lord of all the earth.

Message
Yesterday we ended with the statement: "Ultimately, the problems and difficulties of life are all spiritual." What exactly does this mean? Reflect again on the psalmist's problem. He says to himself: "Why does God allow the ungodly to prosper and the godly to go through great trials and tribulations?" He has trouble as he tries to understand God's ways.

Now there is really only one answer to this problem, and it is found in Isaiah 55:8: " 'My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,' declares the Lord." Whatever we might think about the ways of God, these words give us the ultimate answer - the Almighty acts in ways that are above and beyond our comprehension. It is as if God is saying: "When you look at My ways you must not approach them on a natural level, because if you do you will be baffled and overwhelmed. I act on a higher level than the natural, and if you want to understand Me, then you must come up on this level too."

How often, however, we persist in thinking naturally about life's situations - even those of us who have been in the Christian life for many years. The difference between natural thinking and spiritual thinking is the difference between heaven and earth. The very first thing we must do when we are baffled by some circumstance in our lives, is say to ourselves: "Am I approaching this on a natural level or a spiritual level? Have I reverted unconsciously to my natural way of thinking about these things." The more we learn to think spiritually about life's problems, the less perplexed we will be.

"My thoughts are not your thoughts"

Prayer
Father, I need to adopt and practise many spiritual methods, but none is as important as that which aligns me to Your thoughts and purposes. Help me come up higher - to Your level of thinking. In Jesus' Name. Amen.

你們既為兒子,神就差他兒子的靈進入你們的心,呼叫:「阿爸!父!」可見,從此以後你不是奴僕,乃是兒子了;既是兒子,就靠著神為後嗣。

曾經有一個真實的事件。在一次佈道會中,一位朋友聽了信息後深受感動,正要接受耶穌為救主;但當陪談員進一步解釋救恩時,他卻突然拒絕了。為什麼呢?

陪談員說:「恭喜你!當你接受耶穌為救主,你的生命會立刻有三個改變:第一,你的罪得到赦免;第二,你得著永生;第三,你成為神的兒子,與耶穌一樣,天父就是你的父親。」

這位朋友聽後驚訝地回答:「什麼?天父是我的爸爸?我不要!我已經受夠了父親的毒打,好不容易才逃離了他的魔掌,我不想再有父親!」說著便淚流滿面。原來,他因過去的傷痛對「父親」有很負面的形像。陪談員花了很長時間,才讓他明白天父的慈愛,最終他流著眼淚禱告,決志相信耶穌。

今天的經文提醒我們,成為神的兒子是莫大的福氣,表現在兩方面:
1. 不再是奴僕,而是兒子。在當時,奴僕與兒子的身份有很大分別—奴僕是受苦的,而兒子是蒙愛的。這身份的轉變,代表我們不再受罪轄制,而是享有神兒女的尊榮。
2. 成為神的後嗣。後嗣就是承受父親產業的人。信徒因著基督,得以承受神的產業,與祂一同分享永恆的福份。

仔細思想,這是何等大的差別!未信主之前,我們是滅亡之子,與神為敵;但當我們接受耶穌作救主,就成為神的兒女,承受祂一切的恩典與祝福。

因此,當我們口稱「阿爸!父!」時,應當心存感恩;因為是神的愛,使我們從卑微的奴僕,成為尊貴的兒女;神使「烏鴉變鳳凰」,讓我們在基督裏得著新生命。
