Obituary for Dr. Clara Wong

Dr. Wong Wing Yee Clara, Clinical Associate Professor (honorary), Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on 26 February 2026. Dr. Wong joined the University in 2007 as Clinical Tutor (honorary) and was promoted to Clinical Assistant Professor (honorary) (2010-2014) and Clinical Associate Professor (honorary) (2014-2021). During 2021-2025, Dr. Wong served as Clinical Professional Consultant with an award of courtesy title of “Associate Professor of Practice in Orthopaedics & Traumatology”.

Dr. Wong received the Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Surgeons (HKCOS) Sir Harry Fang Gold Medal Award in 2008 as recognition for her outstanding performance in the Joint Specialist Fellowship examination, as one of the 20 brilliant young Fellows who became the Gold Medalists since the establishment of this award in 1998.

Apart from being an excellent clinician, Dr. Wong also excelled in both teaching and community service. Dr. Wong received the Teacher of the Year Award, Faculty of Medicine, CUHK in 2021, a testimony demonstrating her excellence in teaching and that she is a well-loved teacher among our medical students. Dr. Wong’s selfless love is beyond geographical boundaries, she took part in voluntary works out of her busy schedule. To name but a few: Operation Concern (關懷行動) in Hunan, Xinjiang, Sichuan during 2002 – 2005 and 2012, Standtall (站起來), a rehabilitation program for Sichuan Earthquake evocated by the Chinese Speaking Orthopaedics Society in 2008, and Medecins Sans Frontières (無國界醫生) in Afghanistan and Haiti in 2015.

Dr. Wong’s contributions to excellence in clinical practice and medical education with her selfless love are deeply missed.

矯形外科及創傷學系名譽臨床副教授黃詠儀醫生 於2026年2月26日在家人陪伴下安詳離世。 黃醫生於2007年加入中文大學，擔任名譽臨床導師，並分別於2010-2014年間晉升為名譽臨床助理教授 及2014-2021年間晉升為名譽臨床副教授。 黃醫生及後於2021-2025年期間擔任臨床專業顧問醫生及矯形外科及創傷學系專業應用副教授(禮任)。

黃醫生於2008年獲得香港骨科醫學院Sir Harry Fang 金獎，以表彰她在Joint Specialist Fellowship 考試的傑出表現，成為自1998年該獎項建立以來獲此獎項20位傑出年輕醫生之一。

黃醫生除了是受人讚頌的好醫生，她在教學和社區服務方面亦不遺餘力。 黃醫生於2021年獲得香港中文大學醫學院傑出老師獎，這證明了她卓越的教學能力, 是受人愛戴的好老師。 黃醫生的無私愛心超越了國界，她在繁忙的事務中參與了許多志願工作，例如：於2002-2005年及2012年期間於參與湖南、新疆、四川地區之關懷行動（Operation Concern），於2008年參與華裔骨科學會發起的四川 地震復康計劃-站起來（Standtall），甚至2015年間遠赴阿富汗及海地參與無國界醫生（Médecins Sans Frontières）工作。

黃醫生對臨床工作的貢獻和醫學教育的無私奉獻令人深切懷念。

The 3rd Joint Catholic Hospital and Healthcare Service day (第三屆天主教醫療日) was held at Newman Catholic College on 18th Jan 2026. We were honoured and thankful to have collaboration with various Catholic hospitals and healthcare organizations to provide services such as blood pressure and DM monitoring, retinopathy screening, health talks, end-of-life care information as well as physician consultations. We would also like to express our gratitude to Newman College for providing such a good location, and volunteers from school and friends from various organizations for your generosity. Most importantly, thank God for blessing us.

We just had our annual retreat at the past weekend 10-11 Jan 2026 at Precious Blood Retreat house. Fr Robert Ng S.J. brought 16 of us through a wonderful journey following Christ with St. Paul. Through Jesus’ love , and in Christ, we were now freer in mind , despite we all bear our own cross. We all learnt from St Paul to have the mind of Christ our savior.

今天《愛•生命》微電影第二輯分享會於伊利沙伯醫院舉行，邀請天主教醫生會、護士會、教區婚委會，以及牧靈部朋友一起欣賞，探討兩個生命議題，涉及老人家照顧、傳承、以及臨終照顧和預設醫療指指示等問題。感謝 天主教生命倫理小組神師呂志文神父，以及主席黃祈恩醫生的分享，以四道人生：道謝、道歉、道愛、道別，讓我們更加理解，並思考生命的意義，死後還有更精彩的生命。感謝喜樂生命隊製作團隊拍攝的精彩電影及很有意義的主題曲《歲月巨輪》，讓我們更加明白天主深愛世人。期待其餘兩節電影的分享。

Career talk for interns and students was held yesterday afternoon at QEH. There were two interns and one student joining. Thanks to our brothers and sisters from various specialities for coming to share with our interns and students in choosing their future specialities, especially according to their calling from God . Let us pray for our interns for God’s grace for smooth interviews.

Medical Sunday was held last Sunday on 12oct 2025 at Ricci Hall Chapel, HKU. There were over 100 friends from medical professions attending, which marked a record since COVID outbreak. The thanksgiving mass was celebrated by our spiritual advisor Fr Robert Ng. Fr Ng reminded us to rely on Jesus’s healing power in our medical work and always have faith as the healed Samaritan l***r.

After the mass, Dr Cheryl Yeung from CUHK shared with us her work on advance care planning (ACP). As an experience nurse, she shared with us the new legislation on ACP, and how their team transformed legislation into a loving care journey. Her team walked with patients and family having irreversible illnesses, helped them to understand their wishes of the sick , and supported the family in difficult times. The holistic care helped the whole family spiritually and let the sick die with no regret. However, the programme is not yet widely implemented in public hospitals due to time limit and resources. Let us pray for God’s grace in promoting this meaningful project.
