Ang hirap ng kalagayan nating mga OFW dito sa Japan, 'no? Dahil sa visa o status, language barrier, racism, at dahil naka-depende rin sa employer pati na rin tirahan, marami tayong mga nararanasang hindi kanais-nais.

Dagdag pa diyan ang racism o xenophobia. Pinapalabas nito na ang mga gaikokujin daw ay mga kriminal, threat, o pabigat sa lipunan.

Ang ending? Nagkakawatak-watak ang mga Japanese at mga gaikokujin habang ang tunay na problema gaya ng
mababang sahod, bullying, at unfair working conditions ay binabalewala na lang.

Kaya pag-usapan natin kung saan ba nagmumula ang napakaraming usapin at issue tungkol sa atin, mga foreigner, dito sa Japan—mula sa pabago-bagong immigration policies at toxic work conditions, hanggang sa karanasan ng mga migrant communities at mga organisasyon—
lahat ’yan pag-uusapan,
kaya kita-kita tayo sa August 29 (Sabado) sa Shinbashi Kumin-kan!

One year ago, the Rev. Jihyun Oh stood in solidarity with our partners in the United Church of Christ in the Philippines, signing a letter calling for clemency and the release of human trafficking victim Mary Jane Veloso.

The letter, addressed to Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., states: "Mary Jane has suffered long enough. Justice delayed is justice denied. We, as people of faith, cannot be silent, while one of God’s daughters remains imprisoned after surviving exploitation. Her chains must fall – not in theory, but in truth."

A year later, Mary Jane still remains behind bars.

We continue to pray for Mary Jane, to speak her name, and to stand with our global partners, such as Migrante International, who are advocating for her freedom.

On this World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, we invite you to join us in prayer and raise awareness in your congregation and community so that we may bring hope and freedom to Mary Jane and all those suffering the injustice of human trafficking.

Mary Jane Veloso, trapped under the handcuffs of trafficking for over 16 years, testified against her recruiters for the first time on June 19th, 2026. Her case shows the harsh realities many migrant workers face: deception, exploitation, and limited access to justice etc. Arrested for a crime she did not commit, Veloso fights for freedom with the collaborative support of migrant and faith communities, other concern groups and individuals. Their collective action helped halt her ex*****on and continues to push for her freedom.

Today, her case remains ongoing, with the people accompanying her every step. Veloso's struggle is not just her own - it reflects a shared responsibility, a broader movement for migrant justice worldwide. Find out more about her story through this infographic.
