Prayer and Fasting Day Five, 9 January 2026 — Harmony and Humility: The Witness of the Kingdom

Harmony and humility are not “bonus” virtues in the Kingdom; they are part of the Church’s public witness of what Jesus is like. Romans 12:15–16 shows that Kingdom Character is not just private holiness but shared life that feels together, thinks together, and takes the low place for one another.

Shared Heart: Romans 12:15 calls the Church to “be happy with those who are happy, and weep with those who weep.” This is more than polite sympathy; it is Spirit‑made empathy that enters another’s joy as if it were our own and shares another’s pain as if it were our own. When believers rejoice and weep together like this, the church stops being a room full of individuals and begins to function as “one body” with one shared, Spirit‑filled heart.

This kind of shared heart requires intentional proximity. It means slowing down enough to ask, “What is this brother carrying? What is this sister celebrating?” and then choosing to show up in it. For some, the greater test is rejoicing when another is promoted or blessed; for others, it is not shrinking back from uncomfortable grief. In both, the Holy Spirit is training the church to love like Jesus, who draws near both to weddings and to funerals with a fully engaged heart.

Shared Mind: “Live in harmony with each other” literally carries the idea of “thinking the same thing toward one another.” Kingdom people:

Move toward each other, not away, especially when they disagree.
Value unity in Christ more than winning arguments or proving a point.
Adjust preferences, tone, and expectations to protect the peace of the Spirit.

The same Holy Spirit who gives diverse gifts also gives a common mindset of humility and mutual submission. Diversity of background, temperament, and viewpoint is not a threat; it becomes a choir instead of chaos when each person chooses to “think the same thing” toward others: “You are my brother, my sister in Christ; our unity in Him is precious, and I will bend before I break it.”

Humility: Paul immediately puts his finger on the enemy of harmony, pride. “Don’t be too proud to enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all.” Harmony cannot grow in soil dominated by ego. The Spirit produces a different way of seeing:

Downward, not upward: choosing the low place, gladly spending time with the unnoticed, the poor, the new believer, the one who has nothing to offer your platform.
Together, not above: resisting the urge to be the expert, the spiritual “elite,” or the one who must always have the last word.
Inside out: inviting the Holy Spirit to expose hidden spiritual pride (“I’m more anointed,” “I hear God better,” “I’m deeper than they are”) and nailing it to the cross.

Where the Spirit is honored, humility grows, and humility always makes room for harmony. The result is a community that feels like a single, shared life: Spirit‑empowered empathy, Spirit‑shaped thinking, and Spirit‑produced humility. This is Kingdom Character on public display—a living witness that Jesus truly is Lord among His people!

Prayer Points

1. For a Shared Heart — Lord Jesus, teach me to rejoice with those who rejoice and to weep with those who weep. Give me a heart that is not distant or self‑absorbed but willing to enter the joys and sorrows of others.

2. For Spirit‑Led Empathy — Holy Spirit, break any hardness or indifference in me. Help me notice who is celebrating and who is hurting around me, and lead me to show up with real, Spirit‑empowered care.

3. For a Shared Mindset — Father, renew my thinking so that unity in Christ matters more to me than being right. Where I have withdrawn or written someone off over differences, call me to move toward them in humility and peace.

4. For Hidden Pride to Be Exposed — Holy Spirit, shine Your light on any spiritual pride in my heart—the need to be the expert, to be seen as “deep,” to sit above “ordinary people.” Show it to me clearly, and give me grace to repent and take the low place.

5. For Humility in Relationships — Lord, teach me to gladly associate with the unnoticed and the overlooked in my church. Help me honor every brother and sister as someone You cherish, and to speak and act in ways that protect harmony, not fracture it.

6. For the Church’s Witness — Jesus, make my church a living picture of Kingdom harmony and humility. Let Spirit‑made empathy, shared thinking, and deep humility be so visible among us that the watching world sees Your beauty and is drawn to You.

DECEMBER 2025 PRAYER AND FASTING
DAY 3 OF 3:

In John 21:22, Jesus speaks to Peter and says, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? As for you, follow Me.” Peter was focused on what would happen to John, but Jesus corrected him gently. Faith is not about knowing every answer or understanding God’s full plan, but following Jesus step by step, even when we do not know what He is doing in someone else’s life. We sometimes compare ourselves, or we ask questions God is not answering yet. But Jesus says, “What is that to you?” Meaning: Do not let what you do not know distract you from following Me. We do not need to understand everything in order to obey.

At the very end of the book, John adds one more thought: “Jesus also did many other things. If they were all written down, I suppose the whole world could not contain the books that would be written.” This reminds us that we will never know everything God is doing. His works are too many, too deep, and too great for us to understand fully. We see only a small part of His story, but He sees all of it.

As we slow down, listen, and give Jesus the Driver’s seat again, may we learn to say, “Lord, I do not know every answer, but I will follow You today.” This is the heart of faith—simple obedience, humble trust, and steady steps behind Jesus. Our questions and our future belong to Him, but the next step of obedience is ours to take.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Let’s thank God for directing our lives, and for holding our future.
2. Let’s surrender all of our questions, fears, and concerns to the Lord, inviting Him to work in our lives as only He can.
3. Let’s acknowledge that His ways are higher than ours, and recognize that an infinite, sovereign God can never be fully known by our human minds.
4. Let’s commit again to be obedient to the steps God reveals to us when we wait on Him.

DECEMBER 2025 PRAYER AND FASTING
DAY 2 OF 3:

“And now I will send the Holy Spirit, just as my Father promised. But stay here in the city until the Holy Spirit comes and fills you with power from heaven.”- Luke 24:49

Even though the disciples had already seen the risen Jesus and already received the mission, Jesus still told them to wait. The mission could not begin without the Holy Spirit. The power was never in their own ability—it was in God’s presence. Yesterday we talked about Jesus being the Driver in our lives, not a silent passenger. But we cannot let Jesus drive if we never slow down the car. Waiting is how we stop the car, open the door, and make room for the Spirit to lead us. We may want to move fast, fix problems, and take action, but sometimes Jesus says, “Do not go yet. Wait for Me.”

The Bible shows many blessings that come to those who wait on the Lord: they will “ renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31), they need not fear their enemies (Psalm 37:7), and when we wait, God turns to us and hears our cry (Psalm 40:1). Most of all, waiting prepares us for the Holy Spirit’s power. The disciples waited in Jerusalem, and their waiting turned into Pentecost— boldness, unity, miracles, and new life. Waiting was not a delay; it was preparation.

During prayer and fasting, waiting on the Lord means quieting our hearts, listening carefully, reading His Word slowly, and laying down our own plans so that His can rise. When we wait, we are saying, “Jesus, You drive. I will follow.” We cannot live in God’s power unless we learn to live in God’s timing.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Let us thank God again for his presence in our lives: Emmanuel, God With Us.
2. Let’s repent from all of the times we try to do things in our own strength, or when we put our plans ahead of Him.
3. Let’s commit our time to the Lord, handing every distraction and obligation to Him and making space for Him to speak clearly to us.
4. Let’s wait now in silence and open our hearts for Him to speak into our lives and to fill us with the power of the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER AND FASTING DECEMBER 2025
DAY 1 OF 3:

During this month, we will be focusing on the last words of Jesus in each of the Gospels. Today we look at His final words to the disciples in Matthew 28. Jesus gives clear instructions in verses 19–20 about going into the world to make disciples. But He ends these instructions with a strong promise in verse 20: “And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

One of the names of Jesus is Emmanuel, which means “God With Us.” This is an important part of the Gospel. God does not stay far away. He chooses to live among us and even inside of us by His Spirit. We often celebrate this at Christmas, but it is good to remember it all year. Matthew begins his Gospel with this truth — “Emmanuel… God with us” (Matthew 1:23). And he ends his Gospel with the same truth — “I am with you always” (Matthew 28:20).

This is not about us going up to God, which will happen fully in the future. It is about God coming to us right now. We could say Jesus is “portable” — He goes with us into every place, every task, every fear, and every opportunity. But this does not mean Jesus is just sitting in the back seat of our lives. His promise to be “with us” is not the promise of a passenger.
It is the promise of a Driver — the One who leads, guides, directs, and chooses the road. When He goes with us, it means we follow Him. Where He leads, we go. Where He stops, we stop. Where He sends us, we obey.

And this presence is not only comforting — it is empowering. Matthew shows us that Jesus is with us as we make disciples (Matthew 28:18–20). Mark shows us that Jesus is with us as we preach, pray, and step out in faith, and that God confirms His word with signs (Mark 16:15–18).

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Let’s thank Jesus for his presence in our lives, which will “never leave us nor forsake us.”
2. Let’s us commit again to put Jesus in the driver's seat of our lives, allowing Him to dictate where we go and what we do
3. Let’s ask Jesus to confirm his presence in our lives with signs and wonders, so that we can be a witness to the world around us.
