Before the revelation, the people of Makkah knew him by one title: al-Amin. The Trustworthy. He had never lied. Never betrayed a trust. Never broken an agreement. When the revelation came and the Quraysh rejected him, their leader Abu Jahl said: we do not call you a liar. We reject what you brought. (Tirmidhi) His character was never in question. His message threatened their interests. Character before claim. That was the foundation of his da'wah.
