Theme of the Sunday:

THE TRIUNE GOD AND HIS PLAN OF LOVE.

The three biblical passages that we read today aid our reflection on the identity of the Christian God. It is not enough to say we believe in God, it is important for us to know the God in which we believe. The pagans and members of other sects are different from us because their faces reflect different gods. It is important to know who our God is and what it entails to believe in a God who is three-in-one. The first reading tells us that the Father creates with wisdom, not randomly or in a confused way; he has a plan of salvation to achieve. The second reading presents the work of the Son who glorifies the Father. The gospel clarifies the work of the Spirit. He will bring to completion the work of the Father and of the Son.

A reading from the Book of Proverbs (Proverbs 8:22-31)

Before the beginning of the earth, wisdom was brought forth.

Thus speaks the Wisdom of God: “The Lord created me at the beginning of his work, the first of his acts of old. Ages ago I was set up, at the first, before the beginning of the earth. When there were no depths I was brought forth, when there were no springs abounding with water, before the mountains had been shaped, before the hills, I was brought forth; before he had made the earth with its fields, or the first of the dust of the world. TODAY'S REFLECTION

The solemnity of the Holy Trinity celebrates one of the fundamental beliefs of Christianity: we believe in one God, composed of three distinct persons – the father, the son and the Holy Spirit, united in love and generous self-giving, who work together for the salvation of humanity.

As human beings, we come from differing backgrounds and cultures, have different temperaments and opinions, and we belong to various groups by birth or affinity. These differences, in human considerations alone, give rise to rivalry, jealousy, competitiveness, discord and conflict.

But as Christians, we are called to take the Holy Trinity as the model for our interpersonal relationships. Our differences, instead of being a cause of division, become a richness to be accepted, encouraged and celebrated. Our varying gifts become charisms to be used in collaboration with others, for the good of all.

May our faith enable us to rise above petty human divisions to reflect God’s boundless love and generosity.

TODAY'S REFLECTION

Jesus carries on teaching his disciples how to walk in the way of perfection. He tells them to avoid swearing and instead be sincere in their words. People often swear when they need to convince another person that something they have said is true. In fact, for some persons, swearing becomes a habitual way to cover up a lie or some other mistake.

Jesus refers to the evil one as a liar, the father of lies (Jn 8:44). Whenever we choose lies and falsehood, or manipulate the truth for our convenience, we are making choices that take us away from God himself. We need to make an effort to be consistently truthful and sincere, so that, as God’s children we may always walk in the light of truth.

TODAY'S REFLECTION

The Jews interpret the Law of Moses in terms of external actions and rituals. They categorize certain behaviors as sinful, but not the process that leads to them. Jesus invites his disciples to transform their lives, beginning with attitudes and thoughts. He invites them to be pure in the way they look at and think about other people.

Jesus also says something startling, that it would be better to lose a part of the body, rather than keep it and lose out on eternal salvation. Through this, he wants his disciples to realize that they have to reorganize their priorities in life. If we place eternal salvation above the human desire to seek immediate comfort or pleasure, we will make proper choices in life, choices that bring lasting peace and happiness.

PERSONAL DEVOTIONAL

Thus says the Lord, "Call to me, and I will answer you; I will tell you wonderful and marvelous things that you know nothing about" Jeremiah 33:3

- Lord, I come back to you. I renounce every sin of my life. I return from my life of wasted years. I accept Jesus as my personal Lord and Saviour.

- Father, revive the spirit of fear of God and self-control in me in Jesus name.

In the name of Jesus, I come before thy throne of grace, seeking your divine guidance and direction concerning my life this day. Give me the courage to trust you and to follow the path of faith and righteousness as you take the lead as my shepherd. TODAY'S REFLECTION

Jesus teaches his disciples that their quest for spiritual perfection must be preceded by good human relations. “Before you bring your offering to the altar of God, go first and be reconciled with your brother, and then come and offer your gift,” He says. It isn’t always easy to accept or forgive people with whom we live and work. It demands that we let go of our self-centeredness, egoism and sense of power. But when we make the effort to reconcile with persons around us, we gain internal peace and serenity. This prepares us to develop a deeper spiritual relationship with God.

PERSONAL DEVOTIONAL

"When you give something to a needy person, so not make a big show of it, as the hypocrites do in the houses of worship and on the streets. They have already been paid in full". Matthew 6:2

- Pray that our hearts will continue to be sensitized to the pain of those in need and that God will help us to remain committed to generous living.

- Pray for the orphan, widows and widowers that God may assist them.

- Pray for all accident victims in the hospitals that the Lord may hasten their healing.

- Pray that Christians everywhere will be empowered by the Holy Spirit to be strong in the face of opposition and to share and live out their faith without fear.

Let Us Pray,

Dear Jesus my shepherd, give me courage and strength to overcome my fears, to stand firm in my faith, to live in accordance with your word, to walk the path of truth and love even when it is dangerous. Grant me the grace to share my gift with my fellow breathern especially those that have non around me. Grant me the courage to have dogged trust in your care and protection over me even in the midst of darkest situation.

TODAY'S REFLECTION

The Gospels show us how Jesus fulfils the scriptures in many ways. He is the long-awaited Messiah, the Son of God who reveals the compassionate heart of the father.

Jesus himself gives great importance to the scriptures. He declares that obeying the commandments involves being faithful to the letter and spirit of God’s word. There are persons and groups who try to twist God’s word for their own convenience or benefit, and thus lead people astray. Jesus gave his apostles the sacred responsibility of teaching his flock. May we strive to be faithful to Jesus by collaborating with those who are entrusted with the care of his Church.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Jesus proclaims to the crowds that they are to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. He doesn’t say, “Someday in the future, you will be the salt of the earth.” And he doesn’t say, “If you do everything I teach you, you will be the light of the world.” The crowd might have come to hear about God’s blessings, but instead they received an assignment, a job to be done: be salt and light. Jesus tells them that, just as salt season’s food and light brightens the darkness, they are to be disciples to make a difference! They are to add spice, flavor and vitality to life. Let your light shine. Uncover the lamp you have hidden. Respond to God’s love and goodness in word and deed. Equip us, O God, to be light and salt in the world.

So they put a sponge soaked in wine on a sprig of hyssop and put it up to his mouth. When Jesus had taken the wine, he said, “It is finished.” And bowing his head he handed over the spirit. Now since it was preparation day, in order that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the Sabbath, for the Sabbath day of that week was a solemn one, the Jews asked Pilate that their legs be broken and they be taken down. So the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and them of the other one who was crucified with Jesus. But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs, but one soldier thrust his lance into his side, and immediately blood and water flowed out.

TODAY’S REFLECTION

Today we celebrate the feast of Mary, Mother of the Church – MATER ECCLESIAE. Mary’s role in the Church is inseparable from her union with Christ and flows directly from it. This unbreakable union of Mother and Son in the work of salvation is made manifest from the time of Christ’s virginal conception up to His passion and death. Thus the Blessed Mother advanced in her pilgrimage of faith and faithfully persevered in her relationship with her Son the intensity of His suffering. On the cross, our dying plan, enduring with her only son the intensity of His suffering. On the cross, our dying Savior gave His mother to his beloved disciple. This marked the beginning of another level of her relationship with the disciples, up to the Pentecost event and even after Mary, you who are truly the Mother of the Church, pray for us!

PENTECOST SUNDAY (SOLEMNITY)

PENTECOST DAY

The purpose of Pentecost is the introduction to God doing something He has never done before, that of filling the faithful with His Holy Spirit. The purpose is that we become witness to His character, presence, power and authority.

PENTECOST SUNDAY.

Today is a fitting occasion for the sprinkling rite and infant baptism. The Easter candle is lit at all Masses today, the Easter candle might be borne in procession at the Sunday Mass as a sign that the Easter Season has come to an End.

THEME OF THE SUNDAY:

The Spirit, New Law of the Christian. The first reading and the gospel talk of the descent of the Spirit. The stories of Luke and John complement each other and teach us that the Spirit is the new law, the force that leads us to do good. The Spirit is the source of unit. It pulls down barriers and wherever it enters it destroys sin. The second reading describes a consequence of the presence of the Spirit. Each of us has been given gifts by the same Spirit and they must not be a source of competition but must rather be put at the service of unity.

-FIRST READING-
A reading from the Acts of the Apostles (Acts 2:1-11)

“They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues.”

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. And they were amazed and wondered, saying, “Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? Brethren: those who are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh, you are in the spirit, if the spirit of God really dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the spirit of Christ does not belong to him. But if Christ is in you, although your bodies are dead because of sin, your spirits are alive because of righteousness. If the spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raise Christ Jesus from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit who dwells in you. So then, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh – for if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the spirit you put to death the deeds of the body you will live. For all who are led by the spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the spirit of sonship. When we cry, “Abba! PRAYER OF THE FAITHFUL

Celebrant:

In our joy at the coming of the promised Spirit of unity and peace, we turn to God our Father, asking for the indwelling of his Holy Spirit in our world, our church and our lives.

FOR THE LEADERS OF THE CHURCH: that the Holy Spirit may give guidance to all our Bishops, priests and deacons, and make them zealous in carrying out their pastoral ministry. We pray O Lord.

FOR OUR CIVIL LEADERS: that all appointed or elected to any position of authority in our land may be inspired to work for the good and well-being of those they serve. We pray O Lord.
