On Saturday, 16th May 2026, the Southern Sector of the 2026 Guild Week Celebration was successfully launched at the Rev. Thomas Clegg Memorial Methodist Church, Kaneshie - Accra.
The colourful event brought together full representation from five Dioceses across the Connexion: Accra, Northern Accra, Tema, Koforidua, and Somanya. The launch was held to officially kickstart activities for the 2026 Guild Week and to raise funds towards the construction of a new church building for the Bongo Society in the Wa/Bolgatanga Diocese.
The occasion was graced by prominent Connexional Guild Executives including the Connexional Chairman, Op. Maxwell Amoah, the Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Assistant Secretary, Co-opted Members, and the Accra Diocese Guild Chaplain.
In his address, the Connexional Chairman, Op. Maxwell Amoah, expressed deep appreciation for the massive turnout and commitment shown by the various Dioceses. He particularly commended Tema Diocese for their memorable evangelism and the purchase of land parcels to establish new societies in the Ho Diocese, noting that the Connexional Guild is set to inaugurate the Guild in the Ho Diocese soon. He also raised key concerns and updates regarding major Guild projects, including the Satchel Water Project, the current status of the Offinso Project, and the need for continuous Leadership Training within the Guild and the Church.
We extend heartfelt appreciation to everyone who contributed in diverse ways towards the success of this launch through prayers, financial support, logistics, and active participation. Special appreciation goes to the Accra Diocesan Guild Ambassador, Op. Vera Frimpong, for efficiently chairing the fundraising segment and ensuring the programme was a resounding success.
A special highlight of the event was the presence of the 11th Past President of the Connexional Guild, Op. Jonathan Bassaw, from Tema Diocese. In a powerful presentation, he took the gathering through the rich history of the Methodist Guild in Ghana:
βThe Guild was initially part of the Youth Directorate. In 1993, the Guild wrote to Conference requesting to be removed from the Youth Directorate. This request was granted in 1999 because many Guild members were above the 35-year age limit stipulated by the Youth laws. During the Koforidua Conference in August 1999, the Church officially converted the Guild into an inter-generational organisation.
Through this new status, the Guild embarked on impactful projects, beginning with the X-Ray Block at Wenchi Hospital, which was started in 2003 and completed in January 2004 at a cost of GHΒ’15,000. The facility was inaugurated by Rev. Aboagye Mensah.
The Guild has since been instrumental in church planting, especially in the Northern Sector, including the acquisition of land at Offinso (cut sod in 2011, project started 2016). These achievements gave birth to the Guild Week Celebration, an annual initiative used to groom the youth and raise funds for major projects.
This year, the current Connexional Chairman has introduced the vision of using the 2026 Guild Week to build a church for the Bongo Society in the Wa/Bolgatanga Diocese.β
The 2026 Guild Week is being launched in two sectors Northern and Southern with the Southern Sector successfully hosted today at Kaneshie.
We give glory to God for a powerful and impactful launch. Let us all rally together in prayers, participation, and generous giving as we support this noble project.
