Theme: Wealth Creation
God gives us power to get wealth
“But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth...”
Deuteronomy 8:18
Fellow missionaries, let me begin with a question:
What if the answer to some of the prayers we are praying is already hidden in a skill we have not developed, an idea we have not pursued, or a problem we have not yet learned how to solve?
Many times, when we pray for provision, we expect money to come directly into our hands. But Deuteronomy 8:18 says God gives us power to get wealth.
That power may come as wisdom.
It may come as an idea.
It may come as a skill.
It may come as favour.
It may come as an opportunity.
It may even come as a problem that God gives us the ability to solve.
So sometimes the miracle is not the money itself. The miracle may be the wisdom, skill or opportunity that produces the money.
When we look at Jacob, Joseph, Bezalel and Solomon, we see people whose relationship with God produced something practical.
Jacob entered Laban’s house with little, but he left with abundance. God was with him, but Jacob also understood his work, observed, planned and applied wisdom.
Joseph entered Egypt as a slave, but when Pharaoh faced a national problem, Joseph had an answer. He did not only interpret the dream; he gave Pharaoh an economic plan.
Pharaoh said:
“Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?”
Genesis 41:38
Joseph teaches us something important: the Spirit of God can make us relevant because He gives us wisdom to solve problems.
Bezalel also shows us that the Spirit of God gives practical skills.
“And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship.”
Exodus 31:3
Bezalel could design, build and work skilfully with different materials.
So the Holy Spirit is not limited to what happens behind the pulpit. He can give us creativity, technical ability, business ideas and solutions.
Solomon also received wisdom from God, and that wisdom influenced leadership, administration, development and wealth creation.
Therefore, as missionaries, we must not be spiritually active but professionally stagnant.
We must pray, but we must also learn.
We must believe God, but we must also develop ourselves.
We must trust the Holy Spirit, but we must also improve the skills He has placed in us.
The world is changing rapidly through technology, artificial intelligence, business, science and new ideas. We cannot remain ignorant of these changes.
The world should not only know us as people who can pray; it should also know us as people who can think, create and provide solutions.
Practical Skill-Development Actions
This week, let each of us do something practical:
Identify one skill you need to improve.
Do not postpone it. Begin learning.
Learn something new every day.
Read, study, listen or take a short course that improves your knowledge.
Develop a digital or technological skill.
We should understand the tools shaping the world around us.
Look for problems you can solve.
Wealth often follows value creation.
Seek mentorship.
Learn from someone who is already doing well in an area where you want to grow.
Practise what you learn.
Knowledge becomes skill through consistent practice.
Pray for ideas and opportunities.
Then be ready to act when God opens the door.
So instead of only praying,
“Lord, give me money,”
let us also pray:
“Lord, give me wisdom. Give me an idea. Show me the problem I can solve. Develop the skill in my hands. Open my eyes to opportunities and prosper the work I do.”
Fellow missionaries, we need resources to advance the kingdom.
Therefore, as God blesses us with ideas, skills and opportunities, may we remember that what He places in our hands is not only for ourselves.
Let us become people of prayer and people of skill.
People of faith and people of ideas.
People of the Spirit and people of excellence.
People who do not only see problems, but people who provide solutions.
Prayer
Father, give us the wisdom of Joseph, the insight of Jacob, the skill of Bezalel and the wisdom of Solomon. Open our eyes to opportunities. Help us to develop the gifts and abilities You have placed in us. Give us ideas that solve problems and create value. Prosper the work of our hands, and may the resources You give us be used to bless others and advance Your kingdom. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
