Good Friday celebration (Stations of the Cross)

As the sun dipped below the horizon on Good Friday, the parish community gathered in solemn reverence at the local church. The air was heavy with anticipation and reflection as they commemorated the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Inside the dimly lit sanctuary, flickering candles cast shadows upon the faces of the parishioners. The somber notes of a violin filled the air, accompanying the choir's haunting melodies. The priest, clad in rich purple vestments, led the congregation through the Stations of the Cross, each step a poignant reminder of Christ's sacrifice.

After the solemn procession, the parishioners bowed their heads in prayer, offering their intentions for peace, forgiveness, and renewal. Tears welled in many eyes as they recalled the immense love and mercy demonstrated on that fateful day so long ago.

Following the service, the community gathered outside the church for a simple meal of bread and soup, symbolizing the humble sustenance offered by Christ to his disciples. As they shared stories and memories, a sense of unity and fellowship enveloped them, strengthening their bonds of faith and friendship.

As the night deepened, the parishioners dispersed, carrying with them the solemnity and grace of Good Friday. Though their hearts were heavy with the weight of the crucifixion, they found solace in the promise of resurrection and the hope of redemption. For in their shared celebration, they had glimpsed the profound beauty of God's love and the eternal light that shines even in the darkest of times.

LET US LEARN TOGETHER

a. In Roman Catholic worship, the 25th of December is dedicated to the celebration of The Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord (Christmas).

b. Note this: nine months before the celebration of Christmas, that is, the 25th of March, The Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord is celebrated.

c. If point b is correct, then the question is, why not celebrate today (25th March 2024, Monday) the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord? Why is everybody silent on today’s celebration? What has happened to this year’s Solemnity of the Lord’s Annunciation?

Check the reason:

d. It is true that The Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord is celebrated on 25th March.

e. Church law maintains that if 25th March falls on a Sunday of Lent (which did happen in 2018), on Holy Week or during the octave of Easter (the first 8 days of Easter), The Solemnity of the Lord’s Annunciation should be transferred to a different date, preferably, the Monday after the 2nd Sunday of Easter.

f. Consequently, this year’s celebration of the Solemnity of the Lord’s Annunciation would be observed on 8th April, 2024 (Monday) on account of point e.

Thanks for your time. Let us deepen our understanding of the faith.

The month of January is designated after the ancient Roman god, “Janus”. Janus is the god of beginnings and transitions. He is illustrated with two faces - one looking back on the past, the other looking forward to the future. With this, January is a time to channel our inner potential, much like the Roman god Janus, after whom the month is named. Embrace the spirit of new beginnings and transitions that this month represents. Just as Janus is characterized by two faces looking to the past and the future, let us reflect on our journey thus far and chart a course for the year ahead with hope and determination. Embrace the duality of this time, and let it inspire you to create a fulfilling path forward.
Happy New Year to all of us.
