GROWING IN GRACE [Part 1]
"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen."
2 Peter 3:18 RSV
Look at this interesting scripture over here: I've actually come across very similar littered especially in the new testament and more specifically in the chronicles of Paul.
Paul speaking on the subject of growth for the believer identified two (2) major elements that are requirements if we must attain the fullness of the measure of the stature of Christ.
We must realize that at salvation, every man is prophetically seated with Christ. This means that we now occupy the same life that Christ did and have the potential to become what he became and make impact on earth and eternity like he did. However, the major stumbling block towards achieving the feats of Christ is not even sin but growth.
Sin is a consequence of lack of growth and not the cause of it. A man continues in sin because he refuses to grow and not because sin is powerful enough to stifle his growth. Sin actually means to miss the mark and we miss the mark whenever we fail to grow. We keep on missing the mark as long as we keep refusing to grow. As a man grows in Christ, his sinful tendencies are mitigated until he arrives at that point where it is virtually impossible for him to sin. Not because he can't sin but his will has been so conquered during his growth that it no longer has the ability to say yes to sin.
So, as much as many may feel weak towards committing sin, we do it not because we can but because we actually have a desire for it. Whether we are conscious of that desire or not is another issue but no man commits sin without the validation of his will. Infact, what makes it sin is because you will to go against the divine structures set for you in Christ making you alternate between becoming like Christ and living as the old man. In order to conquer that will, that desire to please oneself above all else including God, we'd need the Grace of God.
