YOU NEED TO START OVER AGAIN
Nicodemus discourse with Jesus in John 3:1-21 reveals the following
1. Spiritual birth is likened to physical birth
2. The holy spirit activity is like the wind
3. The death of Christ is like the snake being lifted up in the wilderness
4. The effect of the new birth is light shining in darkness
Before he could ask a question concerning eternal life, Jesus gave the answer:
‘‘Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3).
1. Spiritual birth is likened to physical birth
It is also called a second birth referring those who have crucified the old nature and have taken on the new one in Christ (2 Cor.5:17). It conveys the idea of a fresh start, something new and exciting. This was very surprising to him because according to the Pharisees, ‘‘the older a man is, the wiser, the more learned, and closer to God he is’’. Jesus did not try to share with Nicodemus the things he knew about God; i.e the bible, the universe etc. but rather, he hit him right at in the most relevant and vulnerable spot.
The following are vital for all to understand this spiritual birth
a) It is not the old nature patched up and made new.
b) It is actually a new birth, resulting in a new person with a new nature (James 1:18; 2 Peter 1:4).
c) Regeneration is that act of God by which He makes dead sinners alive and gives them a new nature.
d) The sinner who was spiritually dead receives new life (Ephesians 2:1, 5; John 3:16).
e) The sinner who was hostile to God becomes a new person with a new nature (2Corinthians 5:17).
2. The holy spirit activity is like the wind
"The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit" (John 3:8).
Spiritual birth is supernatural. Trying to ‘‘box up’’ the spirit is not only spiritually dangerous but also impossible. It is interesting to note that the Greek word for spirit is the same as wind.
How can one control the wind? Nicodemus, it is like attempting to bottle the wind. It blows where it wishes. You can’t see it, smell it, or get a handful of it. This implies that Nicodemus and all of us must just accept how the spirit works and allow it to change our character and operate in us and our ministry through his own method.

"How can these things be?"(John 3:9). Spiritual matters cannot be perfectly interpreted by man. Practical ministry reveals that there some occasions that the pastor cannot explain certain things he did or said, that brought a great breakthrough or deliverance to some members. And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, "Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored to you, and you shall be clean."(2Kings5:10). How can mortal being understand? Yet it worked perfectly for Naaman.
1Cor. 2:11-12 For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
Anyone born of the spirit is control and used by the spirit. The moment we trust in or rely on ourselves, programmes, and strategies, as important as they are, we make our most theological fatal error. Only the spirit can create Christlikeness in any person.
3. The death of Christ is like the snake being lifted up in the wilderness
Without Christ death and resurrection, there eternal life would have been a fiction. New birth is possible because of the sacrificial death on the cross. The link to this Old Testament story was not new to Nicodemus because as a teacher in Israel who even might have use this event in his discourse, yet he had no idea that a real lifting up; this time the man sitting front of him will undergo a similar process to bring eternal life to the world. Nicodemus may have said redemption! Salvation! Eternal life! as he joined Joseph to burry Jesus.
4. The effect of the new birth is light shining in darkness
Regeneration is a translation out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light and love. When he effects this change in one’s life, he is more concerned with rule than realm, his power to change than place.
Now have you undergone these metamorphoses, if no then like Nicodemus, you need to start over again.

TYPES OF DISCIPLES IN JESUS DAYS- WHERE DO YOU BELONG?
1. John the Baptist
2. Moses
3. Pharisees
4. Jesus
DISCIPLES OF JOHN THE BAPTIST
Matt. 11:2-3 And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples 3 and said to Him, "Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?"
a) They lack knowledge of the cost of discipleship and this can cause them to doubt.
b) Show signs of disbelieve during crises
c) They are people dependence, hence if (the leader) falls, they do the same.
d) They point people to Christ
DISCIPLES OF MOSES
John 9:27 He answered them, "I told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become His disciples?"28 Then they reviled him and said, "You are His disciple, but we are Moses' disciples.29 "We know that God spoke to Moses; as for this fellow, we do not know where He is from."
a) They hold on to former traditions
b) Speak of things they don’t know
THE PHARISEES
Matt. 22:15-17 ¶ Then the Pharisees went and plotted how they might entangle Him in His talk. 16 And they sent to Him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that You are true, and teach the way of God in truth; nor do You care about anyone, for You do not regard the person of men. 17 "Tell us, therefore, what do You think? Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?"
a) They test people
b) They are self righteous
c) They practice tribalism
DISCIPLES OF JESUS
Philippians 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross
a) Humble themselves
b) They are faithful
c) They are not disappointed
We’ve been discipled to make others disciples for Christ

Mt 19:13-14 ¶ Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven."

WORDS TO KNOW FROM CHURCH HISTORY
1. Anabaptist: ‘‘Ana’ means again. Anabaptist refers to one who is baptized again. They were members of previous protestant sects, formed in Europe after 1520, that denied the validity of infant baptism, baptized believers only, and advocated social and economic reforms as well as the complete separation of church and state.
2. Apocrypha: Books included in the Latin vulgate and accepted in the Roman Catholic and orthodox canon but considered noncanonical by Protestants because they are not part of the Hebrew Scriptures.
3. Apostolic succession: In Roman Catholicism, the doctrine maintaining that present day successors to Jesus’ apostles (bishops, popes, etc.) have the same spiritual authority, power, and responsibility, conferred upon them as did the original apostles.
4. Arminian: The doctrinal teaching of Jacobus Arminius and his followers who rejected the Calvinist doctrines of predestination and election and who believe that human free will is compatible with God’s sovereignty. Arminians accept the doctrine that Christ died for all people and not only for the elect.
5. Calvinist: Is a theological system and an approach to the Christian life that emphasizes the rule of God over all things. The system is best known for its doctrines of predestination and total depravity.
6. Baptist: One of a denomination of Christians who deny the validity infant baptism and of sprinkling while maintaining that baptism should be administered to voluntary, conscious believers only and should be by immersion. They are usually Calvinistic in doctrine following the reformed tradition in worship, and believing in individual freedom and in the separation of church and state.
John 6:37 "All that the Father gives me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.
Galatians 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Rom. 6:6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
STUDY AND REFLECT ON THESE
Briefly explain why each of the events above is important.
Discuss what effect these events have on Christianity and the world today and watch out for the continuation.
Hmmmmmm-Ok! God blssssss u.

GOOD TIDINGS FOR ALL
Luke 2:10-11 Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
HOW SOME PEOPLE VIEW THE ESSENCE OF CHRISTMAS
a) Worldly view
1. A period in which we eat and drink after church service.
2. People go to church on Christmas and end it there. So it was in ancient times
b) The Jews
Waiting for a long time for the coming of the messiah forgot the real reason for his coming. In Gen.3:15, we see that God gave the first guarantee of a redeemer. They were expecting a political messiah. They were looking for an external freedom instead of inner freedom with all sorts of laws.
c) The rest of the world
They were also under similar bo***ge. The Roman army forced both the rich and poor to suffer. Taxes were imposed on them, all trades were done to favor the Roman government because they controlled the world and their leaders were wicked with cruel ex*****on of people. Moreover the Roman government idolized their emperor as god and was worshiped. So other people were also looking for messiah.
THE WORLD NEEDED A SAVIOR
Gal 4:4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law.
Wonder how the shepherds understood him as we remember and worship him as Christians. He is a savior of our needs, i.e. the spiritual and physical needs. He came to destroy the works of the devil (1Jn.3:8). The gift of God has many things to offer all. Take yours; he was born, yes died for all of us.
PEOPLE WHO COME TO CHURCH ON CHRISTMAS DAYS AND REAL BELIEVERS
a) Irregular ones
1. They don’t know what real salvation means
b) Real believers : their stand and believe is summarize in (John 6:68-69 ; Matt. 16:16)
1. bWe believe and are sure that you are the Christ
2. The son of the living God
3. Has the words of eternal life
GOOD NEWS
1. Makes the bones healthy.
Prov. 15:30 ¶ The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, And a good report makes the bones healthy.
2. Gladdens the heart
Prov. 25:25 ¶ As cold water to a weary soul, So is good news from a far country.
BAD NEWS BRINGS SORROW TO THE HEART
Ahimaaz having a bad news could not utter it, confirming what was in the king’s mind, "He is a good man, and comes with good news (1 Sam. 18:27b)." but the Cush*te told his bad news as fairly as he could, and a dagger went to the father's heart as he heard it (1 Sam.18:32).
THE PRICELESS VALUE OF THE BLESSINGS OF THE KINGDOM
Jesus Christ rightly estimates that the value of the soul, will make its salvation his chief concern, and give up whatever prevents him from obtaining it.
1. A treasure hidden in a field (Matt. 13:44)
2. A pearl of great price (Matt. 13:45,46)
THE INVITATION IS FOR IS FOR THOSE WHO VALUE IT AND PREFERS IT TO OTHER TEMPORARY THINGS
It is described by the parable of the feast, Luke 14:16-24.
We note that each one contains an element of newness
3. New field
4. New oxen
5. New wife

Thus the things of the earth seem new and sweet in comparison with the gospel invitation.
No one will pay for a land or an oxen before he make an attempt to see it. The invitation to the marriage couple was a good platform for them to have a good enjoyment. So they simply did not want to respond to the invitation.

The parable is intended to teach that men forego their rights to heaven for trifles, that is, they consider salvation as something of little value or importance.
In contrast, Jesus said;
If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple (Luke 14:26).

YOU NEED TO SURRENDER AND FOLLOW JESUS
Ruth followed Naomi even though she knew that there was no hope fore her. We have a savior in whom there is hope. So we should follow the savior. This should be done not the way we measure our success, but how God direct our success.
