HiGO DEVOTIONAL:
The Gift of Rest:
Matthew 11:28
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
The Invitation to Come
Jesus declares, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
Notice the first thing Jesus says: “Come to Me.”
He is inviting those who are weary and carrying heavy burdens to come to Him.
David said, “Surely I am sinful from birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.” And the Bible declares that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Once you step outside the glory of God, trouble is all you will find. Outside of God's glory there is shame, pain, sickness, bo***ge, trauma, and nightmares that seem to have no end.
That is why Jesus beckons us to come to Him. He calls us because He has something to give us: REST.
Come and I Will Give
Jesus did not say, “Come to Me and you will find your own rest.”
He said, “Come to Me, and I will give you rest.”
The first step into the gift of His rest is to honor the invitation to come.
Until you come to Jesus, there can be no rest.
But there are also those who have come to Jesus and yet have not received the gift of rest.
Jesus did not say, “Come and you shall have rest.” He said, “Come and I will give you rest.”
That means rest is a gift.
And when something is given to you as a gift, you have a choice: you can reject it, receive it but never use it, or receive it and actually use what has been given to you.
There are people who have come to Jesus but have refused to receive His gift of rest. Therefore, they remain weary and burdened.
And when the world looks at them, it becomes confused: “How can you say you belong to Jesus, yet there is no transformation in your life?”
You Don't Have to Carry the Load
You can carry a load because you chose to carry it, or someone else can put a load on your head.
But in either situation, you have a choice: you can continue carrying it, or you can lay it down.
The Bible says:
“The yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.”
— Isaiah 10:27
The anointing is the power of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is the Helper. He is the Spirit of Truth. He is the One who helps us break free from the yokes, chains, and burdens that have held us captive.
The rest Jesus promises is not merely the absence of activity. It is the presence and help of the Holy Spirit.
You don't have to remain under affliction when Jesus has given us His Holy Spirit to help us.
Receive the Gift
Come to Jesus.
Confess your sins to Him.
Receive His salvation.
Then receive His gift of the Holy Spirit—allow Him to dwell in you, fill you, lead you, and help you.
Demons tremble at the presence of Jesus.
Pain, affliction, bo***ge, and darkness cannot remain where the presence of Jesus is welcomed.
Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and enjoy His help.
Jesus said that the world cannot receive Him because it does not see Him or know Him. But concerning the children of God, Jesus said:
“You know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you.”
And He will never leave you abandoned.
The gifts and calling of God are without repentance. God does not give His gift and then take it back.
NO!
Believe in Jesus.
Believe that His Spirit is in you.
And begin to walk and live as a child of God.
You are not alone.
You are not abandoned.
You do not have to carry every burden yourself.
The Helper lives in you.
Receive His help.
Receive His rest.
Hallelujah!
CONFESSION
I declare that I have come to Jesus to receive His gift of rest, which is found in the Holy Spirit.
Therefore, in the name of Jesus, I part ways with demonic afflictions, pain, bo***ge, and every kind of trouble, because I am born of His Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is my Helper.
He helps me out of every trouble.
I am free from addictions.
I am free from every yoke.
I am free from every chain.
I am a child of light.
I am not abandoned.
I am not defeated.
I have received the gift of the Holy Spirit.
I have entered into my promised rest.
Hallelujah!
