MORNING DEVOTION 😇
THEME FOR THE MONTH: EVERYDAY WITH PAUL
OCTOBER 19
TOPIC : THE CHRISTIANS WERE KNOWN AS PUBLISHERS
SCRIPTURE📖:"The word of the Lord was published throughout all the region"—Acts 13:49.
The printing press was not invented until 1452. Its inventor, Johann Gutenberg of Mainz, Germany, used the press for only one purpose—to publish the Word of the Lord. He expressed his objective in these classic words: “Let us break the seal which holds the holy things; give wings to the truth that by a means no longer written at great expense by the hand that wearies itself, but multiplied by an unwearied machine it may fly to every soul born into the world.”
But 1,400 years before the printing press, Antioch Christians were called “publishers.” The only way these early Christians could have published the Good News was by “gossiping
the gospel.” They were living epistles, known and read of men.
As their words matched their works, an imprint was made on their observers. When others read their characters, attention was drawn to the Master Character Builder.
No part of the New Testament was put into writing, even on handwritten scrolls, until about A D. 50. How marvelous to know that the gospel was published by living epistles long before this.
Such personal publication is referred to as the Exemplified Version. It is the gospel according to me. My example is the only version of the Bible some people will ever see.
The Lord needs these publishers today in all walks of life —in schoolrooms, in offices, in factories, and in professional
circles.
May we remove the typographical errors that give people who read our lives the wrong impression; let us be a standard version of Thy Word.
