Topic: Backsliding

This verse and reflection made me think of you.

"For it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods: and his heart was not perfect with the LORD his God, as was the heart of David his father."
— 1 Kings 11:4 (KJV)

Solomon began his reign as the wisest man who ever lived, the builder of God's temple, and the recipient of extraordinary divine encounters. Yet in his old age, his many foreign wives turned his heart after their gods, and his devotion to the Lord became divided. The text notes that his heart was not perfect with God as David his father's heart had been. This is one of the most sobering examples of backsliding in all of Scripture.
