Topic : DELIGHT YOURSELF IN THE LORD

Bible Reading: Psalm 37:4
Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Opening statement
Everybody has desires/interest/things that make them happy/sad
God has put in your hand the power to receive answers to all your desires

What is the meaning of Delight?
* That which gives you pleasure
* That which gives you extreme satisfaction/joy
* To have /take pleasure in God

_At the end of the day where your attention is, determines where your desire is_

Questions we must all answer

1. What takes your time/focus most of the time?
2. What makes you happy/you enjoy spending your time on gives you an idea of what you delight in?
3. What takes most of your time in the day, in the week and in the month?
4. What is it that you always run to all the time?
5. What is it that occupies your mind/thoughts all the time?
6. What is it that gives you pleasure?
7. What is it that you always try to improve?

***Whatever you invest in will bear fruit in your life - ( Gal.6:7)

If you invest in the flesh you reap the fruits of the flesh Gal.6:8.

_Delight yourself in the Lord because without HIM all you do is for nothing_

Understand this:
***We are under pressure to do so many things but no one puts us under pressure to delight in the LORD

**** Delighting yourself in the LORD must be a personal decision.

*People who delighted in the Lord*
1. David (Delighted in the Lord and from a shepherd boy he rose to become a king)

1. Joseph (In Potiphar's house delighted in the LORD by choosing to make God happy rather than Potiphar's wife, and GOD made him a Prime Minister)

2. Abraham (Though from the house of idol worship, chose to delight in GOD, he became the friend of GOD and the father of many nations)

3. Moses (Chose to delight in GOD and he became God's choicest leader)

4. Daniel and friends (In Babylon, chose to delight in GOD, over the nourishing of their bodies with kings food and GOD honored them)

5. Noah (Delighted in the LORD and the LORD brought deliverance through him)

_Understand this - Delight yourself first in the LORD and you will get whatever you are looking for._

How to delight yourself in the LORD
1. Have a relationship with GOD (Let GOD be your father) Matt. 6.9. One of GOD's love languages is Quality Time.
2. Be interested in the work and things of GOD
3. Pray always without ceasing (1Thes.5:17)
4. Read the word of GOD and meditate on it (Josh.1:8)
5. Surround yourself with committed and dedicated people (Prov. 27:17)

Summary statement
_As you delight yourself in the LORD, HE will grant you your heart desires. (Psalm 37:25)_

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

The Two main Duties of Man
A. Fear God
B. Keep His Commandments

What is a Duty?
* It is the work you’re obliged to perform, for moral or legal reasons
* That which a person is bound by moral obligation to do.

A. FEAR OF GOD
*What’s does it mean to fear God (Positive Side)*
* Fear is the respectful reverence for men of authority or worth
* A profound emotion inspired by a deity

***Fear has positive and negative effect. Why should One reverence God?
Because:
1. He created the world and you. Jer.32:17
2. He is our Provider
3. He is our Protector. Psalm 46:1
4. Our lives are in his hands (Job.12:10)
5. He gives us strength to go about our business.
6. He gives us air to breathe. (Job 12:10)
7. He gives you food to eat.
8. God loves us(he loves us so much that he brings everything to our disposal (Jn.3:16).
9. Without God we are nobody. (Jn.15:5)

*What’s does it mean to fear God (Negative Side)*
*Fear God Means;*
* To have a reverential awe of God.
* To solicitous to avoid His displeasure.

Why should I Fear God:
1. Because God is a jealous God (Exo.20:5).
2. Because Whatever you sow, you reap (Gal. 6:7)
3. Because He is a God of Judgment (Eccl.12:14)
4. Because He has prepared hell for those who hate Him

***The secret of the Lord is with them who fear Him Ps.25:14.

*B. Keep His Commandment*
Simply means:
— Obey it.
— Uphold it

*What are the commandments of the Lord?*
The commandments of God are summed up in two broad commands - Matt.22:35-40

* Love the Lord with all your heart, all your soul and all your mind
* Love your neighborhood as yourself

***If you love God you will easily obey and submit to Him.

***If you love God, doing His things comes easy.

***Blessings naturally gets drawn to you.

*Summary of the word*
Fear God = Live knowing He is God, Respect HIM and Honor Him.

Keep His Commandments = Obey all He says!
