Today marks a poignant moment in our church as we fondly remember our first preacher of the Iron City Church of Christ, Preacher Sampson Osei Jnr, on the one-year anniversary of his passing. A steadfast founding member, his dedication and spirit continue to inspire us. Below, we share a biography of the late Preacher Sampson Osei Jnr to honor his memory and celebrate his life's work.
Rev. 14:13
Preacher Sampson Osei Jnr., popularly known as Yaw Ofosu, was born in August 1961 in Suhum to Emmanuel Osei of Oyoko and Maame Ama Nyarkoa of Obomeng Kwahu, both now deceased. The youngest of eight, he spent his early years with his sister Serwaa and her husband, beginning his education at Suhum Methodist Primary.
His passion for trading led him to join his brother, Osei Moses, in Suhum, where Yaw thrived as a businessman, guiding many peers towards successful trading.
Married to Stella Darko since 1981, they had four children: Maame Serwaa, Kwadwo Nyarko, Nana Kese, and Paa Kofi.
A devout Christian, Yaw was baptized into the Church of Christ and was a pillar in establishing the Suhum Ayekotse Church. He moved to Accra with his family, continuing his trading business and active church involvement, first in Newtown and then in Iron City, Kasoa. There, he helped establish the Iron City Church of Christ, remembered as one of its pioneers.
His leadership at the Iron City Church included initiatives like adopting a ward at the Kasoa Health Centre and organizing donations and cleaning drives. He was also key in the church's public preaching and evangelism efforts, as well as in acquiring land and constructing the church building.
Ordained a preacher in 2011 after studying at the Heritage Bible Institute, he unfortunately fell ill shortly after. Despite his incapacitation, he remained devoted to his faith and church until his passing.
Preacher Sampson Osei Jnr., your unexpected departure left us in sorrow, yet we find comfort in your impactful life. Osofo Sampson Osei Jnr, rest in peace. Damirifa Due, Due!
