Scripture presents submission and leadership as complementary responsibilities under Christ, not as permission for domination or abuse. A husband's leadership is modelled on Christ's self-giving love (Ephesians 5:25), and a wife's submission is an expression of devotion to the Lord (Ephesians 5:22–24). Both husband and wife are called to honour one another and to live with mutual love, respect, and humility (Ephesians 5:21).

Colossians 2:6–7 teaches that the Christian life is lived by remaining rooted in Christ. The same is true of marriage.

A wife follows because she follows Christ.

A husband leads because he follows Christ.

When both are rooted in Him, the marriage becomes stable, fruitful, and full of thanksgiving.

"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in Him, rooted and built up in Him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness." — Colossians 2:6–7

"A wife's submission is most beautiful when it is offered to Christ, and a husband's leadership is most powerful when it reflects the sacrificial love of Christ. When both are rooted in Him, the marriage flourishes."
