The Truth of Christ

The Church of Christ comes your way again with The Truth of Christ. We warmly welcome you, our cherished listener, to this short message from the word of God.
This is Episode 6 of our series, “Sin as Man’s Problem.” In this episode, we are reminded that people can sin against God even in worship, especially when they claim to be the church but follow the teachings and commandments of men instead of the doctrine of Christ.
Jesus Christ is the founder of Christianity and the establisher of His own church. Therefore, true worship must be based on His word, not on human traditions or personal opinions.
The doctrine of Christ teaches that the church should worship God with vocal music by singing with our lips and making melody in our hearts to the Lord. There is no New Testament command authorising instrumental music in worship. When a church acts contrary to this teaching, it goes beyond the doctrine of Christ.
The teachings of Christ also warn against the love of money. A church can become guilty of this when money is raised in ways that are contrary to the doctrine of Christ. Some people sell items in the church at unreasonable prices, while others who call themselves prophets sell so-called “prayer items” to members. Such practices are based on superstition, corruption and deception, and they have nothing to do with true Christianity.
Many denominational churches also falsely teach that Christians are commanded to pay tithes under the New Testament. These practices, together with many others, are contrary to the sound doctrine of Christ.
The church of Christ does all things according to the doctrine of Christ, also called the apostles’ doctrine. We must therefore examine ourselves, return to the word of God, and repent where necessary.

Welcome once again to The Truth of Christ.
I am continuing the Bible lesson, “Sin as Man’s Problem,” and this is Episode 5.
In this episode, I want to draw our attention to God’s charge against Israel and her priests through Hosea the prophet. They lacked the knowledge of God, rejected His law, and lived lawlessly. As a result, they were heading towards destruction, as stated in Hosea 4:6.
This warning is also important for us today. As a people, and especially as Christians, we must make every effort to acquire the knowledge of God. Knowing God and understanding His Word will help us to recognise His will and turn away from sin, which remains man’s greatest problem. Isaiah 59:1–2 teaches that sin separates man from God.
However, sin is not limited only to acts such as sexual immorality, murder, stealing, covetousness, and the other sinful behaviours mentioned in 1 Corinthians 6:18, Galatians 5:19–21, and Ephesians 4:28. As discussed in the previous episodes, people may also sin against God through the way they relate to Him, worship Him, and serve Him as Christians.
For example, we sin against God when we add to, take away from, or change the laws He has given us. Revelation 22:18–19 warns us against doing this. This principle also applies to Christian worship.
As far as Christianity is concerned, the type of music commanded for Christian worship is vocal music and not instrumental music. This teaching is supported by the following New Testament passages: Matthew 26:30, Acts 16:25, Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16, Hebrews 2:12, and Hebrews 13:15.
Therefore, everyone must be careful to worship God according to His Word and not according to human traditions or personal preferences.

“Sin, as Man’s Problem” – EPISODE 4

The church of Christ is here with you again on “The Truth of Christ.”

In Episode 4 of our lesson, “Sin, as Man’s Problem,” I continue to explain that, aside from the sins we commit against ourselves, such as those mentioned in Galatians 5:19-21 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, there are also sins that we commit directly against God.

These are sins connected with how we worship and serve God, either as individuals or as a church. When we ignore or disregard the teachings of Christ and replace them with human creeds, traditions or doctrines, we sin against God.

To Jesus Christ alone belongs all authority in heaven and on earth. He speaks with authority, established His church and gave His church a body of teachings by which it must be organised, worship, serve God and live. Any attempt by an individual or group claiming to be a church to alter the teachings and pattern laid down by Christ is a challenge to His authority and a rejection of His word.

The church must speak where the Bible speaks and remain silent where the Bible is silent.

In Episode 3, I drew attention to the sin of Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron and Levitical priests. They disobeyed God by offering profane fire before Him, which He had not commanded. As a result, fire came from the presence of the Lord and consumed them. This is an example of people claiming to worship God while refusing to obey His commands.

Another example is King Saul. God commanded him to completely destroy the Amalekites because of what they had done to the children of Israel. Saul, however, spared King Agag and the best of the animals. He then tried to justify his disobedience by saying that the animals were kept for sacrifice to God.

But sacrifice could not replace obedience.

Because Saul rejected the command of God, God rejected him as king over Israel.

These examples are relevant to churches today. Many have introduced human doctrines and practices into worship, including the use of musical instruments, even though the New Testament pattern teaches Christians to worship God through vocal music.

God willing, in the coming episodes, I will point out other examples of human creeds and practices that have been introduced into churches today.

Hello, my cherished listeners.

I warmly welcome you once again to “The Truth of Christ”, where I present to you the Bible lesson entitled “Sin, as Man’s Problem” (Episode 3).

In this episode, I explain from the Bible that sin is not only committed against ourselves, as we read in Galatians 5:19-21, but can also be committed directly against God, especially in matters concerning worship.

In the Old Testament, we read about Nadab and Abihu, the two sons of Aaron, who were also priests. In their attempt to offer sacrifice before God, they used strange fire which the Lord had not commanded them. This act was sinful before God, and as a result, fire came out from the presence of the Lord and consumed them (Leviticus 10:1-2).

In the same way, Jesus Christ, the founder of Christianity, established His own church and gave His doctrine as the divine pattern for worship and Christian living. The doctrine of Christ is the blueprint by which true Christianity must be practised. No man has the authority to lay another foundation apart from the one Christ has already laid (Matthew 16:18; 1 Corinthians 3:11; 1 Peter 4:11; Luke 6:46).

Therefore, any group that claims to be a church but disregards the doctrine of Christ is not walking according to the true pattern revealed in the Holy Bible. When people downplay the truth of God, it leads to confusion and the multiplication of different religious practices.
In this lesson, we also consider why Christians gather to worship on the first day of the week, Sunday, according to the teaching and practice revealed in the New Testament (Psalm 118:24; Revelation 1:10; Acts 20:6-7; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2; Luke 22:19-20).

Sin as Man’s Problem, Part 2

Welcome to The Truth of Christ. In this episode, we continue our lesson on “Sin as Man’s Problem.”

In the first part of this lesson, we learned that sin is the greatest problem of mankind because it separates man from God, our Creator. Sin is also the reason death entered the world (Isaiah 59:1-2; Genesis 2:16-17; Romans 5:12).

The Holy Spirit defines sin as the breaking of God’s law. This is lawlessness, and it is what we call sin of commission, meaning sins that a person commits (1 John 3:4).

Sin is also committed when a person knows the good principles of God but refuses to do them. This is called sin of omission, meaning the failure to do what is right in the sight of God (James 4:17).

Examples of sins of commission are clearly stated in Galatians 5:19-21 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, while examples of sins of omission can also be seen in Matthew 25:41.

The Holy Spirit further teaches that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. This refers to man’s wrong and uncontrolled affection for money, which can lead people into many sinful acts (1 Timothy 6:9-10).
In this lesson, I also discussed that God speaks against practices such as betting and lottery, because they are connected to the desire to get rich quickly. The Bible says, “He who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished” (Proverbs 28:20; 13:11).

Sin as Man’s Problem, Part 1

Welcome to The Truth of Christ. In today’s lesson, we begin an important study titled “Sin as Man’s Problem.”

Dear listener, the greatest problem of mankind is not poverty, sickness, or suffering, but sin. Sin is what can cause a person to be separated from God and finally go to hell after death and judgement.

Hell is the place of fire prepared for Satan and his angels, and it is the final destination of the wicked. However, eternal life in heaven is prepared for the righteous (Matthew 25:41, 46; 1 John 2:25; Colossians 1:5).

The Bible teaches that sin separates man from God (Isaiah 59:1-2). Adam was the first man to commit sin, and through him, death entered the world (Genesis 2:16-17; Romans 5:12-13).

The Holy Spirit defines sin as the breaking of God’s law (1 John 3:4). He also teaches that refusing to do what is good according to God’s word is sin (James 4:17).

From these definitions, we learn that there are sins of commission, which are sins we commit, and sins of omission, which happen when we refuse to do what is good in the sight of God. Examples of sins of commission are listed in Galatians 5:19-21.

Welcome to "The Truth of Christ" Outreach Program on the Church of Christ Damang Platform. I, Bro Maxwell Afiadenyo, present to you "The Judgment of God" (Episode 8). In this episode, I try to discuss with you "The final destinations of the souls of men." In the last episode (Episode 7), we learned that Hades or the Hadean world (the abode of the dead, the righteous and the unrighteous) is not the final destination for the dead (Prov 9:18; Luke 16:19-31). Since that is the case, then comes the question: Where are the final destinations for the souls of men after death, both the righteous and the unrighteous?

Jesus Christ tells us that when He comes again, the dead in the grave or Hades will rise, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, but those who have done evil to the resurrection of condemnation (John 5:28-29).

Paul also declares that when Jesus Christ comes again, the dead in Christ will rise first, then those of us who are alive until Jesus' second coming will change, and we, together with them, will be caught up and meet the Lord Jesus Christ in the air and be with Him forever (1 Thess 4:14-18).

In addition, Jesus reveals that the righteous will inherit eternal life while the wicked ones will have their portion in the fire that is prepared for the Devil and his angels (Matt 25:41, 46).

To escape hell, one must seek God, obey the gospel of Christ and do good to his or her neighbors (2 Thess 1:7-9).

The Judgment Of God, Part 7

Welcome to "The Truth Of Christ. In this Bible program, we are discussing the Bible lesson entitled, "The Judgment Of God" (Episode 7). In this episode, we try to discuss life after death. Specifically, we deal with the question which people are skeptical about, that is, "Where are the dead? " We search the Scriptures to find an answer to that question. Some of the Bible passages we look at are Proverbs 9:18; Luke 24:5, 39; Luke 16:19-31; John 5:28-29. In these Bible passages, we are told that the dead are in Hades or the Hadean world. Our Lord Jesus Christ makes it clearly in the story about Lazarus and the rich man in Luke 16:19-31 that both the righteous and the unrighteous who die, go to Hades, and that there are separate places for each in the Hadean world. We also learn that Hades is not the final destination for the dead. People are judged after they die (9:27).

Today’s episode of the Truth of Christ is about The Judgment Of God, Part 6. In this lesson, “The Judgment Of God” highlights the following points: Since death and the Judgment of God are inevitable, we, as humans should prepare ourself. Since the time of Adam till today, no man has been able to prevent death. It is an appointment for man to die once and then face judgment (Hebrews 9:27). The fact that God will judge people based on their moral life and religious life (the church one has been a member of), is biblically true (Gal 5:19-21; John 12:48; 1 Pet 4:17; 1 Tim 3:15; Eph 3:10). It essential that one becomes a member of the Lord's church, follows the doctrine of Christ hence does the will of God (Matt 16:18; Acts 2:41,42; 2 John 9; Matt 6:10; 7:21). One is judged after death; we, who are alive till the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, will be judged on that Day when Jesus comes again (Heb 9:27; 1 Thess 4:14-18; Matt 25:31-46).
