Theme: *The Temple of God*
1 Corinthians 3:16–17, 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
A temple of God is a place or person understood to be set apart for God's presence, worship, and service.
*Types of temples of God*
1. Physical temple – church building 1 Chronicles 22:6-10
2. Spiritual temple – body (trichotomy) 1 Corinthians 3:16–17
Branches of the spiritual temple
1 Thessalonians 5:23: May God sanctify you completely. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless
1. The flesh— the physical aspect of a man that connects him to the physical world.
2. Soul — the psychological/personality aspect of a man described as the seat of his thoughts and feelings—what makes his inner personality distinct.
3. Spirit — the spiritual aspect of a man through which a person relates to and responds to God—faith, worship, spiritual awareness, and communion with God.
God does not merely want to dwell in a building. He wants to dwell in His people.
*Foundation/Pillars of the SPIRITUAL TEMPLE*
1. HOLINESS
Romans 6:12-13: 1 Thessalonians 5:23
If we are God's temple, then holiness matters.
2. WORD OF GOD
Josh 1:8
Colosians 3:16
3. PRAYER
Matthew 21:13:
If we are God's temple, then our lives should be lives of prayer.
4. WORSHIP
Colosians 3:16 Romans 12:1
That means our entire life becomes worship.
True worship is not only what comes out of your mouth; it is what comes out of your life.
*Conclusion*
There is nothing wrong with building a beautiful place where God's people can gather.
But The building is not the ultimate temple.
The greatest temple is the people of God.
Therefore, as we build the physical house, we must also allow God to build us spiritually.
