Asante Bekwai is an ancient town and the natives there are Nananom Ayokofo) who migrated from Asante Juaben.
Bekwai is the capital of Bekwai Municipal. A municipality in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Asante Bekwai is known by its strong traditional council before the end of British rule in Gold Coast, now Ghana. Bekwai was part of the five (5) strong traditional councils that made Asantiman. They are; Kokofu, Juaben, Bekwai, Nsuta and Asante Mampong.
There has been so many Kings who served as the Amanhene of the area and among them is Nana Osei Kwadwo Abebio the current King.
Nana Osei Kwadwo Abebio ruled as the Omanhene of Asante Bekwai for 23 years until an order came from then military government, the late and former president of the Republic of Ghana ie. His Excellency Jerry John Rawlings to sit aside dated 27th January 1991.
Nana Osei Kwadwo Abebio was reinstated as the legitimate King (Omanhene) of Asante Bekwai on the 13th of April 2017 after 26 years and after the demise of Nana Karkari Appau II.
Nana Osei Kwadwo Abebio is six (6) years on today and still counting after his come back as the Omanhene and President of Asante Bekwai Traditional Council.
Agyenkwah TV wishes him a long life and a long stay on the throne.
