"The last words of a great man carry enormous weight. Generals speak of strategy. Fathers speak of legacy. Kings speak of succession. But when Jesus spoke His final words before ascending to heaven, He spoke of mission: 'Go and make disciples of all nations.' His heart was not on preserving an institution, but on reaching the world with the good news of salvation."
This draws attention to Christ's final commission in Gospel of Matthew 28:19–20 and emphasizes the importance of evangelism and discipleship in the Christian faith.

DEVOTION
Theme: Thank God Before the Battle
Text: John 11:41–46; 2 Chronicles 20:21
Preacher: Apostle Robert Mensah
Date: Saturday 10th January, 2026

*Opening Prayer:*

Father, we thank You for Your presence in this place. Speak through Your servant today and teach us the power of thanksgiving even before the victory manifests. May this word strengthen faith, restore hope, and ignite praise in the heart of every listener. In Jesus’ name — Amen!
Introduction
Beloved, we live in a world where many thank God after the breakthrough — after the promotion, after the healing, after the victory. But God wants to raise a people who will thank Him before the battle is won, because faith gives thanks in advance!
When you can praise God while the Red Sea is still in front of you, while Goliath is still standing tall, while Lazarus is still in the tomb — then you have entered into a higher dimension of faith and intimacy with God.
Scriptural Foundations
John 11:41–46
“Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up His eyes, and said, Father, I thank Thee that Thou hast heard Me...”
Before Lazarus came forth from the tomb, Jesus gave thanks!
He hadn’t yet spoken the word “Lazarus, come forth,” but He had already thanked the Father. Thanksgiving opened the realm of resurrection!
2 Chronicles 20:21
“And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the Lord, that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the Lord; for His mercy endureth forever.”
Before a sword was drawn, Jehoshaphat put singers in front of the soldiers. Their weapon was worship. Their battle cry was “Praise the Lord!” And the Lord Himself set ambushes against the enemy!
Message Outline
1. Thanksgiving is an Expression of Faith
Faith thanks God before the miracle.
When Jesus said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me,” Lazarus was still dead! But Jesus’ thanksgiving declared, “I already know the outcome!”
True faith doesn’t wait for evidence — it gives thanks because the heart already trusts the promise.
→ Declaration: “Even if I don’t see it yet, I will thank Him, because He is faithful!”
2. Thanksgiving Invites Divine Intervention
In 2 Chronicles 20, Israel faced three powerful armies — Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir. They were outnumbered, overwhelmed, and afraid. But when they began to sing and to praise, God Himself arose and fought for them.
The moment praise went up, confusion entered the enemy’s camp. God doesn’t lose battles, and when you praise Him before the fight, He takes over the fight.
→ Key Truth: Thanksgiving is not noise — it’s a spiritual weapon.
3. Thanksgiving Changes the Atmosphere
You can’t complain and conquer at the same time.
Complaining invites fear, but thanksgiving stirs faith.
Worship invites God into your situation — and when God steps in, everything changes.
Paul and Silas understood this in Acts 16. They sang praises in prison, and before the song ended, the chains broke and the doors opened. Your praise can shake the foundations of your prison!
→ Prophetic Word: Before this year ends, your thanksgiving will unlock what your prayer couldn’t.
4. Thanksgiving Reveals Who You Trust
Do you thank God only when things are good, or do you thank Him because He is good?
Real gratitude is rooted in trust, not in circumstance.
Jehoshaphat’s praise team marched out singing, “Praise the Lord, for His mercy endureth forever.” They didn’t sing “Praise the Lord, for we are many,” or “for we have weapons.”
They sang about God’s mercy — because when you trust His nature, you can thank Him even in uncertainty.
Practical Lessons
Thank Him before you see results.
Start your prayers with gratitude, not requests.
Sing in the middle of the storm.
Praise disarms fear.
See every battle as an opportunity for God’s glory.
The tougher the battle, the greater the testimony.
Let gratitude become your daily lifestyle.
Thanksgiving isn’t seasonal — it’s spiritual posture.
Conclusion
Before Lazarus came out — Jesus thanked God.
Before Judah fought — they thanked God.
Before your breakthrough manifests — thank God.
Because when you thank Him before, you are declaring that the outcome is already settled. You’re saying, “God, You’ve done it — and I trust You!”
Prophetic Declarations
Raise your right hand and declare:
“I will thank God before the battle!”
“My praise will confuse my enemies!”
“My thanksgiving will open the grave of my miracle!”
“I will see the victory — because the Lord will fight for me!”
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for this word. Teach us to thank You before the victory appears. As we praise You in faith, let every enemy be scattered, let every Lazarus rise, and let every wall fall flat. May our thanksgiving today open doors, release miracles, and glorify Your name.
In Jesus’ mighty name — Amen!

SERMON: WHEN THE SHEPHERD BLEEDS
Key Texts:
Psalm 23:1–3
1 Kings 19:1–8
Isaiah 53:4
Matthew 11:28
INTRODUCTION
Beloved, today we address a subject that is rarely preached but deeply felt:
When the shepherd bleeds, who comforts him?
Shepherds are expected to stand strong. Leaders are expected to endure silently. Pastors, parents, prophets, and pillars are often assumed to be immune to pain. But the Bible never presents leadership as painless—it presents it as sacrificial.
If you lead, carry, or care for others, this message is for you.
I. SHEPHERDS DO BLEED
David — Psalm 23 & Psalm 6
David could say, “The Lord is my shepherd” because he himself had been wounded. The same man who led nations also cried himself to sleep. Leadership did not spare him from pain.
Elijah — 1 Kings 19
After fire fell from heaven, Elijah collapsed under a tree and said, “Lord, take my life.” Victory did not eliminate exhaustion. Anointing did not cancel depression.
Truth:
Being called does not mean being invincible.
II. GOD BECOMES THE SHEPHERD TO THE SHEPHERD
When Elijah bled, God did not rebuke him.
God fed him.
God let him sleep.
God spoke in a gentle whisper.
Psalm 23 is not just for the flock—it is God’s promise to leaders:
He restores my soul
He leads me beside still waters
Truth:
Before God uses you again, He restores you.
III. EVEN JESUS BLED
Jesus is not only our Savior—He is our example.
In Gethsemane, He asked His disciples to watch and pray, but they slept.
He sweat blood.
He carried sorrow alone.
Yet Scripture says:
“Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows.”
Truth:
The Shepherd who bled now comforts bleeding shepherds.
IV. THE DANGER OF BLEEDING IN SILENCE
Many shepherds bleed quietly because:
They don’t want to look weak
They feel responsible for everyone else
They think leaders must always be strong
But unhealed wounds produce:
Burnout
Bitterness
Withdrawal
Hidden anger
Truth:
What you don’t heal will eventually hinder you.
V. GOD’S COMFORT COMES IN THREE WAYS
His Presence
“I am with you always.”
God does not abandon wounded leaders.
His Provision
Like Elijah, sometimes healing starts with rest, nourishment, and stillness.
His People
God sends Jonathans, Aarons, and Hur’s—people who hold up the hands of tired leaders.
VI. A WORD TO THE FLOCK
If you are being led by a shepherd:
Pray for them
Encourage them
Protect their humanity
They carry oil—but they also carry scars.
CONCLUSION
When the shepherd bleeds,
God notices.
God stays.
God heals.
You are not abandoned.
You are not weak.
You are not forgotten.
Even shepherds need green pastures.
ALTAR CALL / CLOSING PRAYER
Lord, today we lift every wounded shepherd—
Those tired in body, mind, and spirit.
Restore their soul.
Renew their strength.
Remind them that You are their Shepherd too.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

God will never fail you. Storms will come, but you’ll rise, eventually. He is the peace in the midst of that storm.

A CAUSE GREATER THAN YOURSELF 🙏
Every generation faces giants—problems that intimidate the crowd and paralyze the fearful. In David’s day, the giant’s name was Goliath. In our time, the giants may be fear, injustice, spiritual decay, or self-centered living. When everyone else was running away, David stood up and asked, “Is there not a cause?”

That single question changed history. It wasn’t pride, it wasn’t arrogance—it was purpose. David saw something worth fighting for, something bigger than himself.
