📢 Official Announcement from the Ghana Hilāl (Crescent) Committee

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. Peace and blessings be upon our noble Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Today, Wednesday, 18th March 2026, corresponds to the 28th day of Ramadan 1447 AH. Accordingly, tomorrow, Thursday, 19th March 2026 (29th Ramadan), will be the day designated for the sighting of the blessed crescent of Shawwāl.

If the crescent moon is sighted, then Friday, 20th March 2026 will mark Eid ul-Fiṭr and the 1st of Shawwāl 1447 AH, and Muslims will observe the Eid.

However, if the crescent is not sighted, then Ramadan will be completed as thirty (30) days, and Eid Ul-Fiṭr will be observed on Saturday, 21st March 2026, which will then be the 1st of Shawwāl 1447 AH.

We ask Allah to accept our fasting, prayers, and acts of devotion, and to grant us the blessing of witnessing Eid in good faith and sound health. Ameen Bijahi Rasulullahi 🙏🏽

HADITH OF THE DAY
Friday 16th Ramadan 1447AH
[March 6, 2026]

Fasting and Protection

Narrated by Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him):
“The Prophet ﷺ said: Fasting is a shield. So when one of you is fasting, he should not behave obscenely or act ignorantly. If someone fights him or insults him, he should say: ‘I am fasting.’” [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Commentary:
This hadith emphasizes that fasting is not only about abstaining from food and drink but also about guarding one’s character and conduct. True fasting protects the believer from sinful speech, anger, and harmful behavior. It trains the soul to respond with patience and dignity, even in the face of provocation.

Ramadan is therefore a time to refine our manners, strengthen our self-control, and embody the values of humility and restraint.

May Allah make our fasting a shield for us, protect our hearts from sin, and grant us patience and dignity in all situations. 🌿

HADITH OF THE DAY

Sunday 4th Ramadan 1447AH [February 22, 2026]

THE SMELL OF THE FASTING PERSON

Narrated by Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him):
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad, the smell coming from the mouth of a fasting person is better with Allah than the fragrance of musk. Allah says: He leaves his food, drink, and desires for My sake. Fasting is for Me, and I will reward it. Every good deed is multiplied ten times, but fasting is for Me, and I will reward it." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

COMMENTARY:
This hadith highlights the special honor of fasting in the sight of Allah. Even the physical hardship of fasting, such as hunger or the change in breath, is beloved to Allah because it reflects sacrifice and sincerity. Unlike other deeds, fasting is described as being exclusively for Allah, showing its unique spiritual value. It is a reminder that fasting is not only about abstaining from food and drink but also about devotion, patience, and seeking Allah’s pleasure.

May Allah accept our fasts, make them fragrant in His sight, and grant us the immense reward He has promised. 🌿

HADITH OF THE DAY

Friday 2nd Ramadan 1447AH [February 20, 2026]

FASTING AS A SHIELD

Narrated by Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him):
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
"Fasting is a shield; so let him not indulge in foul speech or act ignorantly. If someone abuses him or fights with him, let him say: ‘I am fasting.’"
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

COMMENTARY:
This hadith reminds us that fasting is not only about abstaining from food and drink—it is a spiritual shield that protects the believer from sin and bad character. Ramadan is a time to refine our speech, control our anger, and embody patience. By responding with “I am fasting,” we affirm our commitment to discipline and remind ourselves that fasting is meant to elevate our conduct.

May Allah make our fasts a shield against sin, purify our hearts, and grant us patience and good character throughout this blessed month. 🌿

📢 Official Announcement from the Ghana Hilāl (Crescent) Committee 🌙

Today, Tuesday 17th February 2026 corresponds to the 28th day of Sha‘bān 1447 AH. Therefore, tomorrow Wednesday 18th February 2026, which is the 29th of Sha‘bān, will be the first day to search for the blessed crescent of Ramadan.

If the crescent moon is sighted, then Thursday 19th February 2026 will be the 1st of Ramadan 1447 AH, and Muslims are to commence fasting. However, if the moon is not sighted, Sha‘bān will be completed as thirty days, and fasting will begin on Friday 20th February 2026, which will then be the 1st of Ramadan 1447 AH.

NB: The basis for this practice is the saying of the Prophet ﷺ, reported from Muhammad:

“Do not fast until you see the crescent, and do not end the fast until you see it. If it is obscured from you, then complete thirty days.”
— Reported in Sunan al-Tirmidhi and others.

Islamic Understanding:

1. Ramadan begins upon the confirmed sighting of the crescent moon.

2. If the moon is not visible due to clouds or other factors, Sha‘bān is completed as thirty days.

3. The same principle applies to determining the end of Ramadan and the commencement of ‘Eid al-Fiṭr.

May Allah unite us upon truth and guidance and allow us to enter Ramadan with purified hearts. Āmīn.🙏🏽
