he Empty Chair

Kojo always arrived late to the church compound, even though he never went inside.

He sat under the neem tree across the road, watching people walk in with their Bibles and quiet confidence. Some laughed. Some looked tired. But all of them seemed to belong somewhere.

Kojo didn’t.

Life had taught him to survive, not to hope. He had tried religion once—prayed hard, waited long, and when nothing changed, he walked away. If God was real, he thought, He had passed me by.

One Sunday evening, rain started suddenly. People rushed out of the church, but Kojo remained under the tree, soaked and lost in thought.

Then an old man approached him....
