On Today's Feed!

On Wednesday, 22nd April 2026, the Knights of St. John International, under the auspices of the Kumasi Grand Commandery, recorded a significant and spiritually enriching milestone with the initiation of thirty (30) Seminarians from St. Gregory the Great Provincial Major Seminary into the Noble Order.

This laudable initiative, undertaken at the Grand level, was duly entrusted to Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Commandery #617 – KNUST, which served as host and coordinating Local Commandery for the exercise. The successful ex*****on of this responsibility reflects the Commandery’s organisational capacity, commitment, and alignment with the broader vision of the Kumasi Grand.

The initiation ceremony was conducted with due solemnity and reverence, in keeping with the sacred traditions and enduring values of the Noble Order. The admission of thirty Seminarians into the fraternity marks a profound strengthening of the spiritual and apostolic foundation of the Noble Order, while further deepening the bond between priestly formation and the lay apostolate.

This milestone stands as a testament to the continued growth and vitality of the Noble Order within the Kumasi Grand. The inclusion of Seminarians, men already undergoing formation for Holy Orders, adds a distinctive dimension to the life and mission of the Knights, reinforcing the call to disciplined service, spiritual depth, and fraternity.

On behalf of the leadership, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to the newly initiated Brothers. It is our earnest expectation that, as they begin their journey within the Noble Order, they will uphold the cherished principles of Faith, Hope, and Charity, and distinguish themselves through lives of integrity, humility, and dedicated service to God, the Church, and humanity.

May this initiation serve as a firm foundation for their continued spiritual growth and commitment to the ideals of the Knights of St. John International.

The Accra East Grand Commandery and Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Knights of St. John International have officially handed over their Hermitage Project at the Archbishop Andoh Catechetical Centre to the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra. This noble initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen spirituality and promote a culture of prayer within the Archdiocese.

The handing-over ceremony, held on 23rd April 2025, brought together officers and members from various Local Commanderies and Subordinate Auxiliaries within the Accra East Grand, in a strong show of unity and fraternity.

The occasion was marked by a solemn Holy Mass presided over by Most Rev. Anthony Narh Asare, Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra. In his exhortation, he underscored the significance of hermitages in fostering spiritual growth and encouraged the faithful to make full use of the facility. He further urged members to ensure the project remains vibrant and impactful, stating, “Because Christ is risen, He gives meaning to our faith… this must not become a white elephant but rather the beginning of a movement of a Church in prayer.”

In his homily, Rev. Fr. Major John Benya Mensah, Chaplain of Accra East Grand KSJI, called on members to be true witnesses of Christ’s resurrection, guiding others in their faith journey. Drawing a parallel with Philip in the Scriptures, he remarked, “We are the Philips of the 21st century, called to direct people to where they can encounter God.” He further emphasised the growing need for spaces of solitude and reflection, adding that it is the responsibility of members to lead others to such sacred encounters with God.

Speaking to Newswatchgh, Brigadier General Samuel Baimbill-Johnson, together with Noble Sister Margaret Mary Palmer-Buckle, Grand Presidents of the Accra East Grand Commandery & Ladies' Auxiliary expressed heartfelt appreciation to all members and benefactors whose support made the project a reality.

They highlighted the importance of the hermitage as a spiritual haven within the Archdiocese, encouraging the faithful to take advantage of the facility at the Archbishop Andoh Catechetical Centre, Kordiabe, rather than travelling long distances for retreats.

“We encourage all to see Kordiabe as a true retreat centre. There is no need to travel far outside the Archdiocese for spiritual renewal,” they noted. “This facility is open to all Knights, Ladies, Catholics, and even our Christian brothers and sisters from other denominations. Come one, come all.”

The KSJI Hermitage Project, now officially handed over to the Catholic Archdiocese of Accra, comprises three bedrooms, a chapel, a kitchen, a visitors’ washroom, a laundry facility, and two detached hermitages. The project has been posthumously dedicated to the memory of Most Rev. John Kwadwo Amissah, former Archbishop of Cape Coast and a past Spiritual Director of KSJI Ghana.

Following the recent approval and issuance of the Charter for St. Anthony of Padua Commandery #1045, a key milestone in the continued growth of the Noble Order in the North, as the Tamale Grand Commandery inaugurates a new Commandery in the Damongo Diocese, Savannah Region. A delegation of eleven (11) Grand Board Officers, on 20th March 2026, undertook an official visit to Bamboi for the inaugural and Thanksgiving Ceremony.

The newly inaugurated Commandery becomes the fourth (4th) within the 29th District Commandery, bringing the total number of Local Commanderies under the Tamale Grand Commandery to fifteen (15).

The programme was climaxed with a colourful and well-attended celebration on Sunday, 22nd March 2026, at St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Bamboi, where the Commandery's Charter was formally outdoored and members of the new Commandery officially introduced to the Parish community.

Notably, the event was graced by the presence of Col. Francis Xavier Batuuraviel of Holy Trinity Commandery #978, Wenchi, Secretary of the Sunyani Grand Commandery. Having played a key role in the formation of the Commandery, his presence underscored the spirit of fraternity and solidarity that defines the Noble Order, as well as the collaborative efforts that continue to drive its expansion.

In their respective remarks during the inaugural Thanksgiving Ceremony, both the Grand President and the 29th District Commander charged the leadership and members of the Commandery to remain steadfast in upholding the tenets of the Order and to work diligently towards the growth and consolidation of the Commandery.

As a gesture of support, the 29th District Commandery made a cash donation to the Parish.

The establishment of this Commandery marks yet another significant milestone in the steady expansion of the Noble Order in the Northern sector, reinforcing the spirit of growth, fraternity, and service.

HOLY ROSARY COMMANDERY #901, SUAME WELCOMES TWELVE NEW BROTHERS.

On Saturday, 11th April 2026, the Holy Rosary Commandery #901, Suame, recorded a significant and spiritually uplifting milestone with the initiation of twelve (12) Brothers into the Noble Order.

The initiation ceremony was conducted in an atmosphere marked by reverence, fraternity, and solemn commitment to the ideals of the Order. Notably, the cohort comprised two (2) Priests and one (1) Seminarian, a development which underscores the deepening spiritual character and ecclesiastical alignment of the Commandery. Their inclusion reflects a strengthening bond between the Clergy and the lay apostolate within the Order.

This milestone is not only a testament to the sustained growth of Holy Rosary Commandery #901, but also a reaffirmation of its dedication to nurturing men of faith, discipline, and service. The presence of ordained and aspiring clergy among the newly initiated Brothers serves as an inspiration and a call to higher responsibility for all members.

On behalf of the leadership, we extend our warmest congratulations to the newly initiated Brothers. As they begin this sacred journey, it is our earnest expectation that they will uphold the principles of Faith, Hope, and Charity, and distinguish themselves through active participation, unwavering commitment, and exemplary conduct within the Commandery and the Noble Order at large.

May their initiation into the Noble Order be the beginning of a life of deeper service to God, the Church, and humanity.

HOLY SPIRIT COMMANDERY #431, KNIGHT OF THE YEAR 2025: BRIGADIER-GENERAL BEKOE PALMER-BUCKLE HONOURED FOR EXEMPLARY SERVICE.

In a celebrated recognition of extraordinary dedication, the Holy Spirit Commandery No. 431 of the Knights of St. John International, Adabraka, Accra, has named Brigadier-General Bekoe Palmer-Buckle as the recipient of the Commandery’s Knight of the Year Award for 2025.

Following a unanimous recommendation by the Commandery's Board of Trustees, the honouree was described by his Brothers as a quiet giant of generosity, a mentor of men, and a living testament to the core values of the Noble Order: Faith, Hope, and Charity. In a nomination letter dated 13th December 2025, Lt. Aloysius Sallah Jr., Fifth Trustee of the Commandery, submitted the sole nomination received for the award, that of Brigadier-General Bekoe Palmer-Buckle. What made General Bekoe’s nomination remarkable was not merely the list of accomplishments, but the spirit behind them. For instance, in voluntary drives for support, the General is “willing to donate and contribute” without hesitation or fanfare.

Among the specific acts of charity cited in the nomination were support for Commandery socialization, especially in the area of the Easter Communion Breakfast, support for Cadets’ activities, a gesture of encouragement to the next generation of leaders, and assistance in honouring fallen Brothers with dignity. These gestures reflect the call to charity required of Knights.

Before any Knight could be considered for the award, the Committee established clear prerequisites, all of which Brigadier-General Palmer-Buckle satisfied in full. The selection criteria developed by the Knight of the Year Award Committee required the exemplification of all three core values, Faith, Hope, and Charity alongside demonstrated commitment to the Noble Order, spiritual engagement, and social fraternity. The Trustees, in their endorsement, stated unequivocally: “We have no doubt that the candidate has met the criteria for selection for the award.”

The nomination was the sole submission received by the Commandery, a fact that the Commandery unanimously resolved to honour by recognising Brigadier-General Palmer-Buckle for his good deeds and exploits over the years. The sole nomination was also interpreted in another light, that when a figure of Bekoe Palmer-Buckle's stature is rightly honoured, other worthy Knights step aside, not from reluctance, but from the recognition that some honours find their natural home.

For the Commandery, the award affirms that quiet faithfulness does not go unnoticed. For younger Knights, it sets a standard to aspire towards not of wealth or rank, but of character and consistency. For Brigadier-General Bekoe Palmer-Buckle himself, who reportedly had no knowledge of his nomination, the award comes as a surprise rather than an expectation. And perhaps that is the truest mark of a Knight of the Year: he serves not for recognition, but because service is who he is.

The formal approval of the nomination was widely endorsed by members of the Holy Spirit Commandery No. 431, Adabraka. Given the unanimous recommendation of the Trustees and the compelling case laid out in both the Committee's report and the nominee’s profile, the nomination was approved without hesitation.

The award seeks to honour dedicated Brothers who distinguish themselves in service to the Commandery and the Order at large. Any Brother who fits this category should have attended a number of meetings within the year of nomination, discharged all financial obligations, and played roles that cut across the tenets of Loyalty, Unity, and Charity. That Brigadier-General Palmer-Buckle stands as the recipient for 2025 carries a strong symbolic dimension. This ceremonial honour was conferred at the April 2026 Business Meeting, where Brigadier-General Bekoe Palmer-Buckle was formally recognised and presented with a plaque as Knight of the Year 2025 in pomp and pageantry. Until then, he remains what he has always been: a Knight serving quietly, giving generously, and mentoring patiently, asking nothing in return.

Beyond his generosity, Brigadier-General Bekoe Palmer-Buckle has served in various capacities within the Local Commandery and the Noble Order at large, and continues to mentor many young Brothers. His consistent presence has directly impacted the lives of many younger Brothers in the Noble Order. He served the Local Commandery as President for two (2) tenures, as President of the Accra East Grand Commandery for two (2) tenures, and as Grand Master of the Archbishop William Thomas Porter Chapter of Chevaliers, among others.
