The Methodist Church Ghana has commissioned and dedicated a magnificent new Conference Office building in Accra.
Christened Wesley Towers, the 16-storey facility comprising 2 basement floors and 14 office floors, sits on a 3.2-acre land at No 3 Ambassadorial Enclave, Cruickshank Road, Ridge West, Accra.
Commissioning the new edifice on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, Ghanaโs Vice President, H. E. Dr Mahamudu Bawumia described the facility as a โโGrade Aโ office block which provides fit-for-purpose facilitiesโ comfort to all usersโ stressing โthis Wesley Towers has changed the skyline and increased the beauty of the Central Business District.โ
He noted that the facility is โa testament to the unwavering faith, dedication, and commitment of the entire membership of The Methodist Church Ghana.โ
Dr Bawumia extended gratitude to members of the Church for โgenerously giving their time, talents, money and resources to make this Wesley Towers a reality.โ
The colourful ceremony which was attended by the hierarchy of the Church including past Presiding Bishops, Lay Presidents, Administrative Bishops and Bishops of the various Dioceses, also saw in attendance, the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship Justice Mrs Gertrude Torkornoo, Senior Advisor to the President, Hon Yaw Osafo-Maafo, the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, as well as representatives of other churches and ecumenical bodies.
In a brief exhortation, the Presiding Bishop of The Methodist Church Ghana, the Most Rev Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo, paid tribute to the entire leadership and membership of the Church โwhose hard work, generosity, determination have made this day possible.โ
Most Rev Dr Boafo, who is the 5th Presiding Bishop of the Church, acknowledged the contributions of His predecessors in the realisation of the dream of a new Conference Office building.
โIn the midst of all the challenges, the obstacles, disappointments, and unexpected crosses that you have had to carry out, you never stopped believing in Godโs promise to walk with His people through the desert and to bring them to the promised landโ Dr Boafo noted, adding โand here we are today, a living proof of Godโs sustaining grace in our lives as the people called Methodists and as Ghanaians.โ
Executed by the China State Hualong Construction Company Ghana Limited (CSHLC), the Wesley Towers is โan interpretation of the mission of The Methodist Church Ghanaโ, a brief history of the project read by Bro William Orleans Oduro [Esq], the Lay President of the Church, said in part.
The edifice has the image of 3 boxes separated by glass necks sitting on a podium. The boxes are designed to provide shading for the south-facing glass curtain wall and have been proportioned to a 2-3-3 rhythm, with a cross spanning the height and breadth of the building. With the international code for Ghana being +233, the facade of the building thus symbolises Ghana.
The lower box encloses 3 floors and has been designed to look left. The middle box also encloses 3 floors and has been designed to look in the opposite direction. The boxes, appearing to look in both left and right directions, speak of the all-embracing ministry of The Methodist Church Ghana.
A spring of water enlivened with colourful lights and with the jets of the fountain synchronised with 21 hymns, canticles, and hi-life choral music greets visitors at the entrance to the Wesley Towers. Hovering over the entrance foyer is a glass canopy shaped like a dove with outspreading wings. The water, colourful lights, and the dove, all symbolising the enabling presence of the Holy Spirit, welcome you into the facility.
The Wesley Towers has lettable floors open to businesses and other corporate bodies in Accra.
