The Lay Movement Council of the Winneba Diocese of The Methodist Church Ghana, during its 17th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Saturday, 6th June 2026, at Wesley Methodist Church, Agona Nyakrom, took a moment to celebrate and honour dedicated men and women whose sacrificial service has significantly advanced the work of God within the Diocese.
Among the distinguished personalities honoured was *Brother Ebenezer Kwamina Onumah*, a revered member of the Winneba Diocesan Guild, whose unwavering commitment, exemplary leadership, and decades of faithful service to the Church have left an enduring legacy.
Brother Onumah's journey of service began from childhood as a devoted Methodist Guilder. Through diligence, humility, and dedication, he served in various capacities within the Society Guild in his hometown of Gomoa Ekwamkrom in the Gomoa Manso Circuit. His leadership qualities and passion for the work of God saw him rise steadily through the ranks, serving at the Circuit, District, and Connexional levels, eventually attaining the prestigious office of Connexional Guild Secretary.
His contributions to the Methodist Guild in Ghana are remarkable. He played a pivotal role in the successful celebration of the Guild's Centenary Anniversary held in Cape Coast in 1999. Notably, Brother Onumah became the first Ghanaian Guilder to receive an official invitation from the British Guild to participate in a Holiday Camp at Abbot Hall near Leeds in the United Kingdom, a recognition that highlighted his dedication and influence beyond the shores of Ghana.
Over the years, his zeal for God's work led to his appointment on several diocesan committees across different dioceses, including Sekondi, Cape Coast, Koforidua, Sefwi Bekwai, and Northern Ghana. His wealth of experience, wisdom, and commitment have greatly enriched the ministries he has served.
Beyond his administrative and leadership roles, Brother Onumah remains a local preacher and Assistant Class Leader, continually contributing to the spiritual growth of the Church and the nurturing of future generations of Christians. His life exemplifies servant leadership, humility, and steadfast devotion to Christ and His Church.
Presenting the citation on behalf of the Lay Movement Council, the Diocese acknowledged his selfless dedication, visionary leadership, and Christ-like humility, noting that his labour has greatly advanced the mission of disciple-making and transformed countless lives within the Methodist Church Ghana.
The honour bestowed upon Brother Onumah was met with admiration and appreciation from delegates and church leaders gathered at the AGM. It served as a fitting recognition of a man whose footprints in the sands of Methodist history continue to inspire many.
Indeed, as the saying goes, *"A nation that does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for."* The Winneba Diocese has demonstrated that it values and celebrates faithful service by recognising one of its finest sons. The honour accorded Brother Ebenezer Kwamina Onumah is not only a celebration of his achievements but also a challenge to younger generations to emulate his commitment, dedication, and unwavering service to God and humanity.
As Brother Onumah continues his journey in God's vineyard, the Methodist family prays for renewed strength, divine favour, good health, and abundant grace upon his life. May his remarkable legacy continue to inspire generations to serve with excellence and devotion.
