Every child deserves more than survival, every child deserves a future filled with love, education, protection, and hope.

Sadly, Domestic Servitude, Child labour, and Early child marriage continue to steal the dreams of millions of children across our communities. Many children are forced into hard labour, denied education, abused in silence, or pushed into responsibilities far beyond their age.

A child is not a servant.
A child is not a bride.
A child is not a tool for exploitation.

As a faith-based community, we are called to defend the vulnerable, speak for the voiceless, and stand for justice. Protecting children is not just a responsibility it is a moral duty.

Today, let us choose protection over exploitation, dignity over silence, and compassion over neglect.

Together, we can create a society where every child is safe, valued, educated, and free to dream.

A childโ€™s place is in school, not in labour.Behind every working child is a lost dream.

Pope Leo XIVโ€™s prayer intention for the month of May is that everyone might have food.

In a video released on X, the Holy Father asked the faithful, โ€œWhat do you feel about 318 million people experiencing acute hunger every day?โ€

โ€œWe need to act, but without prayer we will remain powerless,โ€ he said. โ€œThis May, I invite you to join me in prayer that we may seriously commit to avoiding food waste and to ensuring that everyone has access to quality food every day.โ€

In the full video shared on the Popeโ€™s Worldwide Prayer Network website, Pope Leo recites an original prayer written specifically for this monthโ€™s prayer intention.

Here is the popeโ€™s full prayer:

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amรฉn.
Lord of creation,
You gave us the fertile earth and, with it, our daily bread,
as a sign of Your love and providence.
Today we recognize with sorrow
that millions of brothers and sisters continue to suffer from hunger,
while so many goods are wasted at our tables.
Awaken in us a new awareness:
that we learn to thank for every food,
to consume simply,
to share with joy,
and to care for the fruits of the earth as a gift from You,
destined for all, not just a few.
Good Father,
make us capable of transforming the logic of selfish consumption
into a culture of solidarity.
May our communities promote concrete gestures:
awareness campaigns, food banks,
and a sober and responsible lifestyle.
You who sent us Your beloved Son Jesus,
broken bread for the life of the world,
give us a new heart, hungry for justice and thirsty for fraternity.
May no one be excluded from the common table,
and may Your Spirit teach us to see bread
not as an object of consumption,
but as a sign of communion and care.

Amen.

On the 15th of December 2023, at the Catholic Guest house in Tamale Ghana, African Faith & Justice Network Ghana, held a workshop on

โ€œTHE ROLE OF THE YOUTH TO END EARLY CHILD MARRIAGEโ€.

This meeting saw the likes of 50 youth advocates and volunteers working in different fields come together to push this agenda . There was a gap that needed to be filled and that was bringing more youth on board in Tamale, Ghana to end and push a fight against early child marriage .

The workshop covered the segments of the works of AFGN in Tamale from 2022, a medical practitioner from Tamale Teaching Hospital educated the youth gathered on VVF and medical issues that come out as a result of early child marriage and a representative from the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative to educate them on the rights of the girl child and where to report such cases.

The youth did not fail to bring out their grievances about the not so smooth running of CHRAJ in their duties and the bureaucracy that follows in reporting an issue , they also raised suggestions of CHRAJ to be strategic in their information distribution because we realized most of the youth in the advocacy space are not aware of their toll free number to call to report issues how much more victims .The youth where now urged to bring out the roles they need to play and this was what they came out with;

1. To be role models for the younger generation

2.To join in advocacy and sensitization against early child marriage

3.Influencing by laws

4.Making good use of social media

5.By Supporting the young ones economic empowerment skills

30 participants from the workshop have shown commitment to partaking in our community engagement and are ready to help.
The program was crowned with each of the youth carving out their own personal message concerning the issue of ending early child marriage and the pictures below depicts what they have in mind .
