Let me share something small.
There was a period I wasn’t showing up physically in church the way I usually do. Not because I didn’t want to. Anyone who knows me knows I don’t joke with my walk with God.
But life was happening.
My car had broken down, and where I live and where my church is… it’s not close. On a good day, getting there by ride is not cheap at all. And at that point in my life, I genuinely could not afford to be doing that every single Sunday.
I had someone who used to help sometimes, but for a while she was out of town, so I had to join services online.
I was still present. Just not physically.
Then one day, someone said something to me.
“You haven’t been coming to church. If you really love God, you would make a way. No matter how much it costs.”
I paused.
Not because I didn’t understand what she was trying to say… but because I realized something.
Sometimes, as Christians, we speak from assumption, not from understanding.
We see behavior, but we don’t know the story behind it.
We conclude quickly, but we haven’t asked a single question.
And without realizing it, we place weight on people who are already trying their best to stand.
Bestie, can we do better?
Can we be a little more gentle with people?
Can we ask before we assume?
Can we remember that loving God is not always loud or visible the way we expect?
Sometimes loving God looks like showing up online because that’s all you can afford in that season.
Sometimes it looks like praying through tears when nothing makes sense.
Sometimes it looks like holding on quietly when everything around you feels uncertain.
Not every absence is a lack of faith.
Not every struggle is spiritual laziness.
Some people are doing the best they can with what they have.
So before we speak, let’s pause.
Before we judge, let’s consider.
Because you never really know what someone is carrying.
And a little kindness can go a long way.
