JOURNAL ENTRY 02 — THE EMPTY WELL
Finding God When Life Feels Dry
“Sometimes God allows the well we depended on to run dry so we can discover the Source we were meant to depend on.”
Have you ever reached for something you thought would sustain you…
…and discovered that it was empty?
â—‡ You thought the opportunity would satisfy you.
â—‡ You thought the relationship would complete you.
â—‡ You thought the money would give you security.
â—‡ You thought that position would finally make you feel significant.
â—‡ You thought that door would change everything.
But then…
the well ran dry.
Welcome to Journal Entry 02.
đź’§ THE EMPTY WELL
One of the hardest things about a desert is discovering that the things you depended on cannot always sustain you.
Jesus said:
“Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:” — John 4:13, KJV
Jesus was speaking to the woman at the well. She came looking for ordinary water but Jesus wanted to introduce her to something greater.
“But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst...” — John 4:14, KJV
There is a difference between a source and the Source.
â– People can be sources.
â– Jobs can be sources.
â– Businesses can be sources.
â– Opportunities can be sources.
â– But God is the Source.
And sometimes the desert teaches us that lesson in a way comfort never could.
🌵 WHEN YOUR WELL RUNS DRY
* Maybe your "well" is a business that isn't producing what it used to.
* Maybe it's an opportunity that disappeared.
* Maybe it's a person you thought would always be there.
* Maybe it is the issue of child bearing.
* Maybe you've been praying for something, and instead of receiving more, it feels like you've received less.
And you're asking:
“God, why did You allow this to dry up?”
I don't want us to automatically assume that every dry well was caused by God.
â—‹ Sometimes wells run dry because of circumstances.
â—‹ Sometimes because of our decisions.
â—‹ Sometimes because seasons change.
But whatever the reason, God can still use the dryness to redirect our dependence.
David said:
“My soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;” — Psalm 63:1, KJV
Notice David's response to the dry land.
He didn't say:
“I need the land to change before I can seek God.”
He said:
“My soul thirsteth for thee.”
That's the lesson.
🔥 THE BUSINESS & LIFE LESSON
This applies to more than spiritual life.
As you build your business, ministry, career, or family, don't make the mistake of confusing God's provision with God Himself.
â—Ź If God gives you a business, be grateful.
â—Ź If God gives you customers, be grateful.
â—Ź If God gives you an opportunity, be grateful.
But don't allow the gift to replace the Giver. Because if your confidence is completely tied to what you have today, what happens when today's provision disappears?
Your faith shouldn't collapse because one well runs dry.
Why?
Because your Source is deeper than the well.
đź‘Ł TODAY'S LIFE CHALLENGE
Identify one "well" you've been depending on too heavily.
It could be:
1. money,
2. people,
3. recognition,
4. a job,
5. an opportunity,
6. social media,
7. your own ability,
8. or even your plans.
Write this down:
“Lord, help me receive Your gifts without making the gifts my god.”
Then spend at least five minutes today simply thanking God—not for what He can give you, but for who He is.
