Many thanks to Roy for these words

When JD Vance said that Christianity was about loving family first and then others further from you in expanding concentric circles, I suspect many agreed that that is what many of us do. But it is not the full extent of the love Christ promoted. After all even the ‘bad people’ of the world look after those who look after them. Honour among thieves etc. Surely Christ’s parable of the Good Samaritan is Christ’s response to this. The lawyer who approached Jesus is (like JD Vance) exploring who is my neighbour - who should I love and in what order? But the punch line of the story Christ tells him is that Jesus asks ‘who was a neighbour to the man who fell amongst thieves’. The answer given is that it was the Samaritan - an enemy of the Jewish people - who was neighbourly and showed mercy. So of course we love our families but the call of Christ is to be neighbourly and show mercy to whoever is in need - even if they are our enemy!! A message of radical, saving and costly love not lived out enough in the church - never mind the world. But it is sorely needed. Roy Lowes

The Trustees of Royal Wootton Bassett URC are very appreciative of the dedication of Tamsin and Kelly to The Hive toddler group from the time they took over responsibility in 2016.

Sadly, the decision has been taken to close The Hive as a church led group.

There is an option for another Toddler Group to meet at the church, independently run and that option is open to anyone interested. Further details can be found on our web site.

Once again we extend our thanks to Tamsin and Kelly and wish them every happiness and success in the future.

This Sunday for All Saints Day Terry Riches leads us to think about 'Living For all the Saints'. Sadly we can only listen to the music of the hymn For All the Saints and imagine singing it.

Michael Page leads our service today, the first of more visits during the winter. The readings this morning are: 1 Thessalonians 2:1-8, Psalm 67 and Matthew 22:34-46 (Teacher, which commandment in law is the greatest?).

I wonder what he will say about these readings?

We welcome Martin Osman back to lead our service this Sunday, starting at 10.30am. Alison Lynn will be playing the piano for us.
We will be thinking of all those in the UK worrying how the rising tide of the pandemic will affect them. We are thankful the incidence around us here is not too high, but many know people in regions that are more affected.

Our service this Sunday is based around these verses from Paul's letter to the Phillipians. Do come and join our socially distanced service at 10.30. I tried to add a link here to Bob Marley's song 'Don't Worry, Be Happy' on YouTube, but Facebook didn't like it - so search yourself and have a sing!

As we plan to move to a real life service next week, Sarah returns to Psalm 46. And she ends with thanks, which we reflect from Royal Wootton Bassett, to all who have helped her put these video services together. We give special thanks to Andy for bringing the technology together and delivering the service each week. We hope to see each other next week, Jenny

Our virtual service this week led by our Minister, Sarah, is based on the story of the workers in the vineyard. Sarah talks about generosity in these difficult times.

Rev'd Sarah Simpson leads Morning Worship, based on the parable of the workers in the vineyard from Matthew Chapter 20
