The bowls season is now over and so autumn maintenance work on the green has been completed. The green had been scarified, top dressed and seeded. With the right weather conditions we will hopefully soon begin to see some changes in the condition of the green.

Holy Trinity Church

Following our previous post about the Holy Trinity Church we have received a further update from The Rev’d Shaun Conlon, Durham Diocesan Interim Change Minister, Priest-in-charge Holy Trinity Wingate . Please see below.

''The meeting is not with a lawyer acting on behalf of the Bishop of Durham, it is with a member of the Durham diocesan staff who takes a lead in dealing with church reorganisation in a legal way. Whilst in some instances this might be regarding closure, in this instance it is not. It is a meeting with Holy Trinity Church and the three neighbouring churches of Shotton, Haswell and Wheatley Hill to simply talk about how, legally, we might change the ways in which we are constituted as a group of four churches.

At this stage there is absolutely no vision for the closing of any of the four church buildings, just conversations about whether we continue as four separate parishes with four separate church councils, or whether we adopt another model. ''

Hopefully this clarifies things. The meeting is still taking place at 7pm tomorrow in the Holy Trinity Church.

Holy Trinity Church

It has just been brought to our attention that the Holy Trinity Church is potentially going to close, we don't have any other details at this stage other than the threat of closure is real..

There is a meeting in the Church on Tuesday commencing at 7pm when a lawyer who is acting as advisor to the Bishop of Durham will be present to provide further details.

The meeting is open to the public and so if you are interested in the future of the Church please try and attend. Holy Trinity has been the village Church for 185 years!
