Meet Douglas Hill: a Yorkshire-born, self-taught artist whose eye for colour and light has taken him from the cobbled streets of St Ives to galleries in London, New York and New Zealand.

After 22 years painting the harbours and beaches of Cornwall in the great plein air tradition, Douglas has turned his gaze to something deeply personal: the infinitely varied town of Whitby.

Halloween on the streets; Jubilee celebrations; harbour life; a peaceful afternoon in Pannett Park; Douglas has painted real scenes, as they happened, in vivid colour.

Love Whitby? These paintings are for you. 10 days only, starting this Saturday.

You *definitely* know this one! 🎶

The melody 'Cranbrook' was composed by Thomas Clark (1775–1859), a cobbler from Canterbury, and is famously and widely sung to "On Ilkla Moor Baht 'At."

But did you know that it started life as a hymn tune?

We will be leading the singing of this melody to the words of 'This Is The Day The Lord Hath Made' by Isaac Watts (1674–1748).

Come and be uplifted and join in with this rousing music on Sunday 14th December at our Folk Service, St John's, Brunswick Street, Whitby YO21 1BL at 10:30am 🎶🤗

All are welcome and we'd be delighted to see you - please linger afterwards to admire the historic church and have a coffee ☕🍪❤️

Add some splendour to the joyful third Sunday of Advent with the melody 'Helmsley' at our Folk Service on Sunday 14th December. We'll be singing it with the traditional words of 'Lo, He Comes With Clouds Descending' by Charles Wesley (1707-1788).

It's a fabulous one for the congregation to sing with huge festive energy and it would be lovely to have you there to share the Christmas spirit.

Please join us at 10:30am at the church of St John the Evangelist on Brunswick Street, Whitby YO21 1BL.

All are welcome.

Please join us at our Advent Folk Service on Sunday 14th December at 10:30am, in the Church of St John the Evangelist on Brunswick Street, Whitby YO21 1BL.

We will be leading the congregation with some lovely 18th and 19th century music, including the very old 'Seven Joys of Mary.' An early version of this was written down in the 1500s, with the version we are singing being printed in 'Christmas Carols New and Old's in 1871.

The very enjoyable performance here is by Canadian folk singers Kate and Anna McGarrigle.
