Running a small business means wearing lots of hats. A huge amount of juggling. A fair bit of uncertainty. And a lot of head scratching…

I make the decisions; I design and print the products; I negotiate with suppliers; I’m customer facing; I balance the books; I book the events; I do the marketing… and I wake up in the night and wonder what on earth I’m doing.

But I love what I do. And there’s an immense personal satisfaction when customers love my stationery. And I have a husband and children who muck in from time to time.

On our last day of a fabulous holiday to Kerala, I had one hour for some shopping before heading to the airport. Amazingly, (or luckily as my number one assistant would say) we hadn’t seen a shop for two whole weeks.

There was so much choice but no design I really loved. When I said to the very eager shopkeeper that I just wanted an elephant, he replied “wait one minute”. He popped round to his friend next door and, less than a minute later, came back with the most perfect elephant.

And here it is. I’m so happy with it.

When I founded Spritzblue in 2015, there were five things that were really important to me. And over ten years later, they still are.

1. A thank you is such a simple thing. Even for the smallest thing.

2. A simple design is always best.

3. Big and bold colours every time.

4. Take the time to write - especially when someone has gone to a big effort, been kind or generous.

5. I handprint everything in my studio, and all my card is fully sustainable.

And that’s it!

On Wednesday 4th March, I’ll be at Stockbridge Town Hall, SO20 6HE, from 9.30 to 4.00, with a whole host of fabulous independent brands. Each one of us is offering some very tempting discounts and hope to see you there.

I’m loving using this vintage woodcut French typeface. It’s seen some use, but this just makes the patina more interesting.

Of course I had to print some new thank you cards (in peacock blue, magenta pink and gold this time).

It also comes in lower case, which I’m now playing around with for design ideas.

Today (Wednesday 10th December) is the last day for bespoke stationery orders.

For everything else, it’s Wednesday 17th December.

I just want to make sure the postman or postwoman has enough time to deliver it all. And after that my stationery doors and drawers will be closed until Monday 5th January. You will find me with a large glass of wine and a mince pie somewhere nice.
