West Pelton Methodist Church

West Pelton Methodist Church Welcome to the page for our church. Sunday morning service at 11am every week, Bible Study every Wednesday at 7:30pm, all welcome.

Our History
West Pelton Methodist Church can trace its origins back to 1870 when Squire Eden donated a plot of land in this mining village in County Durham. The original chapel was opened in October 1870, however due to pitfalls from undergound seams the building became a danger and foundations for a new chapel were laid in June 1912. Less than 18 months later on 20th December 1913 the new buildin

g opened which stands to this day. The church hall was added in 1930 and a major refurbishment in 1990 equipped the building with a meeting room, kitchen and toilets along with a new entrance to the main hall. Today's congregation is drawn from West Pelton itself as well as well as the surrounding villages. Sunday services are held every Sunday at 11am and all are welcome. The church hall is available for bookings and a number of regular events are held on a weekly basis. Ministers:
Rev Ian Kent
Rev Dr Liz Kent
Deacon Linda Watkin

It's nearly the second Saturday of the month, so it's nearly time for the next 'Just Worship".
There's no theme, no agenda, just time and space with God. Take the opportunity to simply rest in the presence of God - to sing, to pray, to dance, to be still - with no aim other than to be with God.
It does what it says on the tin. It's not an 'event' like a concert, and it's definitely not a 'service'. It's simply a space and time to come and be with God.
You can come for the whole time or just drop in for 5 minutes.
You can join in with the songs or simply sit and listen.
You can pray, (out loud or in silence), or you can ask someone to pray with you (or for you).
You can get together with others there, or enjoy time on your own.
You can sit, stand, lie down, dance about - it's up to you.
Just worship takes place every month on the second Saturday of the month.
Our next 'Just Worship' is this Saturday 12th March, any time between 7pm and 9pm, at Chester le Street Methodist Church

Sunday 6th March was the first Sunday in Lent, and the first Sunday in our lent series. This week we looked at 'Giving Up' - something many people might associate with this season. We delve deeper into the idea of 'self-emptying' in order to experience a 'God-filling'.
