gather all that is heavy and all that still holds hope.
When our world fractures and our patience grows thin,
form us in the quiet, faithful work of reconciliation.
Where love is given in service, often unseen,

that through loss and longing new life may yet arise,

Lord, in our seasons of sorrow you are the source of joy. Thank you for your promise to be near to the broken-hearted and to bind their wounds.

Lord, for those who are longing for a freshness from you, we pray you would rest on them. We pray your presence would illuminate sparks of joy, allowing them to spread your goodness.

Lord, do what only you can – bring strength from fear, joy from grief, and bless your children around the world. Amen.

Holy Embrace, in our sorrow you hold us,
not imposing yourself,
but instead inviting our lament,
our honest cry from the depths of our being.
You witness our bodies quaking with grief,
our tears soaking our souls,
but they never shake or drown you.

Holy Embrace,
you charge us with joy,
laughing with us in the depths of our souls.
You witness the tears rolling down our faces,
our bodies quaking again,
from the foreseen and unexpected moments
of your abundance, hope and love.

Holy Embrace,

Thanks to your coming so long ago,

Loving God,
We come before you with honest hearts, bringing both our sorrow and hope. You know the struggles we carry and the pain we find hard to put into words. Be close to us in moments of sadness and remind us that we are never alone. Bring comfort where there is hurt, and strength where there is weakness. Transform our sorrow into joy, not by ignoring what has been difficult, but by shaping us through your love and grace. Help us to trust your presence and to walk forwards with hope, courage and renewed joy. Amen.

Compassionate God, as Rachel wept for her children, so we weep for the children in areas of the world where there is no peace.

We commit to your loving care all peacemakers and peacekeepers, all who risk their lives to help and support those suffering as a result of conflict. Help us, we pray, to do all we can to help bring about a world where peace and justice reign and where sorrow can be turned to joy.
