Prayer has always been at the heart of the life of the Church — bringing people together across traditions, communities and nations in a shared expression of faith.

The United Reformed Church is seeking someone with a passion for prayer and a commitment to ecumenical unity to serve as a URC representative on the World Day of Prayer National Committee for England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

This voluntary role is an opportunity to represent the URC within a wider Christian movement, working alongside people from different denominations and traditions who are united through prayer and a shared desire to witness to God’s love in the world.

We would particularly welcome interest from someone who values the richness of Christians coming together across denominational boundaries and who feels called to contribute their time, faith and experience to this important ministry.

The World Day of Prayer reminds us that although our traditions and experiences may differ, we are united in Christ and in our calling to pray with and for one another.

Pioneering begins with faith — with a willingness to listen for where God may be leading us and the courage to follow, even when the path ahead is new.

Mersey Synod is holding an online Pioneering Event for anyone who feels called to explore new ways of being church, those who have a heart for supporting and praying for pioneers, and those who simply want to be part of the conversation about the future direction of our Church.

At the heart of this gathering will be prayer. We will hear more about the pioneering opportunities developing across Mersey Synod and, importantly, spend time praying for those who are stepping out in faith, discerning new possibilities and seeking to serve God in new and meaningful ways.

Pioneering does not always begin with having all the answers. Sometimes it begins simply with listening, praying and being willing to ask, “God, where are you calling us next?”

We warmly invite you to join us on Monday 7th September at 7pm, online via Microsoft Teams, as we come together in faith and prayer and look towards what God may be calling us to build, nurture and become.

The journey of the Manifesto for Hope continues — a call to faith, action and hope.

Since the launch of the Manifesto for Hope in November 2025, churches, Christian leaders, community organisations and civic leaders across Liverpool have continued to come together around a shared conviction: our faith calls us to be people of hope and to put that hope into action.

Throughout 2026, we have held online public readings and Community Conversations, creating space to listen, pray, reflect and ask how the Church can respond faithfully to the needs of our communities.

At Liverpool’s Pentecost event, we brought the Manifesto’s nine themes to life through banners and stalls, alongside organisations whose work demonstrates what it means to serve, care and bring hope to others.

In July, Liverpool City Council united behind the Manifesto for Hope through a cross-party motion — an important moment of shared commitment to a city where every person is valued, supported and able to flourish.

The Manifesto was launched 40 years after the landmark Faith in the City: A Call for Action by Church and Nation. Four decades later, that call still speaks powerfully to us.

Our faith cannot remain on the sidelines. We are called to love our neighbours, stand with those who are struggling, speak up for justice and work together for the common good.

The Manifesto for Hope is more than a document. It is a call to the Church to live out the hope we proclaim — through prayer, compassion, courage and action.

We give thanks to God for everyone who has been part of this journey, and we pray that this work will continue to inspire faith communities across Liverpool and beyond.

This standalone session will combine reflection, discussion and practical ideas to help you connect worship and youth ministry, with simple ideas you can take back and use in your own context.

Family Film Fun at Peasley Cross

We recently held our very first Family Film Fun Event at Peasley Cross, and what a lovely afternoon it was.

Local families came together to share food, friendship and a film, watching Room on the Broom.

Afterwards, we continued the fun in the hall, working together to make the tallest witch’s hat we could from newspapers, followed by a relay race where we carried little items on spoons and tried to get them safely into a bowl. Our own little version of “Room on the Spoon”!

We then took some time to think about the people we would want to share our own broom with. It gave us a chance to reflect on friendship, kindness and making sure that nobody is left out. As a church family, we are reminded that everyone has a place and that we are called to welcome and include one another.

Our wonderful newspaper hats are now proudly displayed in Church, reminding us of a very special afternoon together.

Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make our first Family Film Fun Event such a success. We had a wonderful time, and we’re already looking forward to planning the next one.

We hope to see many more families joining us as we continue to build community, share faith and have fun together.

Could you consider becoming a Church Safeguarding Coordinator or Deputy?

Safeguarding is a vital part of the Church’s ministry and mission, helping our churches remain safe, welcoming and supportive places for everyone.

If you have ever thought about becoming a Church Safeguarding Coordinator or Deputy, or have been approached about taking on the role, we would encourage you to find out more.

You don’t need to have all the answers. The role is about caring for people, encouraging good safeguarding practice, and knowing where to go for advice and support when needed. Training, guidance and ongoing support are available to help you in this important role.

Please prayerfully consider whether this could be a way for you to serve your church community.

As we say goodbye to July and welcome August, we take a moment to give thanks for the beauty and blessings that this summer has brought us.

Summer gives us so many little reminders of God’s goodness — from the sound of birds singing in the morning, to the colours of flowers in bloom, and the fruit growing and ripening around us. These simple gifts are a wonderful reminder of the care and creativity of our Creator, and the beauty that surrounds us when we take the time to notice.

Throughout July, we have shared in moments of fellowship, celebration, and community, and we look forward to all that August will bring. May we continue to find joy in the world around us, gratitude in our hearts, and opportunities to grow together in faith.

On Monday, work began on an exciting new chapter in the life of Christ Church Haydock as we started building an extension to create a second hall.

This new space will give us room to grow the work we're already doing with children and young people, while opening the door to new ways of serving our local community. As part of the project, we'll also be installing a larger kitchen and refurbishing some of our existing rooms, helping us to welcome and support more people in the years ahead.

This project isn't just about bricks and mortar. It's about creating space to share the love of Christ in practical ways, offering hospitality, building relationships, and serving our neighbours faithfully.

The photograph shows Eric digging the first hole, alongside Brian and David, who have given countless hours to helping bring this project to this point. Behind them stands our church family, gathered together in support and thanksgiving as this new chapter began.

We would value your continued prayers for everyone involved in the work over the coming months, and we look forward to sharing the journey with you.

It was a pleasure to visit Alsager URC and see their wonderful Soup and Sing group, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year.

It was inspiring to hear how this simple idea has grown into a place of friendship, fellowship and encouragement, bringing people together through music, conversation and a shared meal. The difference it has made to the church and the wider community is something everyone involved can be truly proud of.

Thank you to everyone at Alsager URC for such a warm welcome, and congratulations on 10 years of faithful service. May God continue to bless this special ministry for many years to come.

Wild Sunday at Peasley Cross URC

Peasley Cross URC recently held its first Wild Sunday, bringing together worship and practical action to celebrate and care for God's creation.

The morning began with a short service led by Revd Allison Claxton, with prayers and hymns reflecting on the gift of creation and our calling to be faithful stewards of the world God has entrusted to us. Together, the congregation considered how we can care for the environment and be mindful of the impact we have on it.

After worship, everyone gathered in the church hall for a range of nature-focused activities. Bee drinking stations and bird feeders were made, two hedgehog homes were installed in the church grounds, and wildflower seeds were sown to encourage butterflies, bees and other pollinators.

It was a wonderful way to put faith into action, and the congregation is looking forward to seeing the church gardens become a welcoming habitat for a variety of wildlife in the months ahead.
