Praying today on the opening of the new Lidl. Praying that it will be a real asset for the area in terms of local, affordable shopping and for supplying new jobs. We pray that the other local shops will also benefit from the increasing footfall and that there will continue to be a strong sense of community in our South Oxhey.

On Harvest Sunday we thanked God for all the good things he provides, and we collected for our Foodbank.

We'd particularly like to thank Greenfields, Oxhey Wood and Warren Dell schools who have all said they will give us their harvest collections too.

South Oxhey Baptist Church is 70 years old! Seventy years of the building, but more importantly 70 years of God’s faithfulness to those that have found community in this place.

Our bench plaque reminds us of the difficult times, particularly in the last couple of years when we lost friends and family to Covid, but also speaks of the certain hope that Jesus brings to those who are weary or struggling, offering rest and unexpected peace.

Olive trees, like the one we planted were first mentioned in the Bible when Noah released a dove and it brought back an olive branch. Since then, the olive tree has had many uses, including as food, medicine, furniture, and as oil for lamps and anointing; and olive trees were also referred to by Jesus and the apostles in their teaching. This tree symbolises peace, sustenance, rest, light, healing, new beginnings and new life. We pray that, as we partner with God, he will bless our local community with all these good things, for the next 70 years and more, or until Jesus himself returns in glory.

Psalm 52: 8-9 says:
But I am like an olive tree
flourishing in the house of God;
I trust in God’s unfailing love
for ever and ever.
For what you have done I will always praise you
in the presence of your faithful people.
And I will hope in your name,
for your name is good.

Amen

No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven
The future sure, the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon
And He was raised to overthrow the grave
To this I hold, my sin has been defeated
Jesus now and ever is my plea
Oh the chains are released, I can sing, "I am free"
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

Persistence in prayer. We know that sometimes our hearts don’t understand His will or His timing. We must be willing to be persistent in prayer, to wait for God’s “yes” to manifest, but also willing to accept no for an answer. We know and trust His good character. His response will be what's best for us.

This weekend we celebrated pentecost. It reminds us that God loves us so much that he came down in the person of Jesus and that today we can know the Jesus now through God's Spirit. And the purpose of this ....?... to overflow with God's love to bless others. https://youtu.be/2Nkc_1p8FWQ

Philip Coffin's Sunday message was based on Acts chapter 12. The people were praying and they saw God answer in a way they could never have imagined. God is the same today. https://youtu.be/tEhPPBYsabc
