Association of Safety and Compliance Professionals (ASCP) has launched a national campaign calling for a clearer, more consistent legal route to access homes for essential safety checks and works, helping housing providers keep people safe.
At the heart of the campaign is a new white paper, Safety can’t wait outside, published with support from CORGI Technical Services. It sets out the scale of the issue:
- 200,000+ social homes are estimated to contain ‘At Risk’ or ‘Immediately Dangerous’ gas installations
- 90,000+ homes have a C1 electrical danger present
- Nearly 1 million properties require multiple visits to gain access
- Repeated access attempts cost the sector over £175 million each year, rising to between £200 million and £245 million when legal action is included
The Access for Safety campaign is built on a simple principle: where access is required for clearly defined safety checks and works, the law should provide a consistent and reliable route to secure it, with proper safeguards in place.
If safety matters, access has to matter too. Safety can’t wait outside.
