1st Richmond upon Thames Boys' Brigade Company

1st Richmond upon Thames Boys' Brigade Company Our Company first opened in 1962 and have been standing firm at Whitton Baptist Church since.

The Boys’ Brigade was founded in Glasgow in 1883 and was the first uniformed youth organisation from which has sprung all the other major youth organisations.

1st Richmond upon Thames Boys' Brigade will not be able to reconvene and meet face-to-face. Our 3 key staff leaders all work in schools, and whilst we felt that we would have been able to meet most of the requirements, this added an extra layer of complexity and risk that at this point in time we consider to be too high and unmanageable.

We are investigating and planning to hold a fortnightly Zoom meeting online, which will last around 30 minutes. This would be to enable the boys to communicate and re-establish friendships that they may not otherwise have been able to. We will also use the time to work with the BBatHome resources that BB are publishing weekly.

We will be continually reviewing the possibility of a face-to-face return and should we feel that the risk has become more manageable, then we will of course look to reopen.

This statement was prepared prior to recent government announcements restricting gatherings to 6 people.

Although we wouldn't normally be meeting this evening, following on from previous weeks, I thought I would share with you this short video about Jesus’ Triumphal entry to Jerusalem.

“This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee,”

As Jesus and his disciples approached Jerusalem, Jesus sent two ahead to go and find a donkey and her c**t, untie them and bring them back to Jesus. If anyone asks what they were doing, they were reply that “The Master needs them” and that they would then be allowed to go.
When Jesus arrived in Jerusalem, riding on the donkey, just like the prophet had said, the whole city was thrown into uproar. “Praise be to God” they said.

Based on Matthew 21:1–11, Mark 11:1–11, Luke 19:28–44, John 12:12–19

As we are unable to meet as we would normally be doing this evening, I thought I would share with you this short video about Jesus being tempted by the devil.

“Worship the Lord your God and serve only him!”

After being baptised; still full of the Holy Spirit, Jesus was led into the desert where he was tempted by the devil for forty days! During this time, he ate nothing, so he was very hungry by the time it was over.
The devil tempted him, by suggesting that if Jesus really were God’s son, he could use his faith and turn rocks into bread. After Jesus refused, the devil tried again, by offering Jesus power and wealth. Jesus refused once more. The devil tried for a third time, by asking Jesus to test God and jump off a roof! Jesus answered, “The scripture says, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
After the devil failed, he left Jesus alone for a while.

Based on Luke 4: 1-13 and Matthew 4:1-11

As we are unable to meet as we would normally be doing this evening, I thought I would share with you this short video about the Baptism of Jesus.

“This is my own dear Son, with whom I am pleased.”

Jesus arrived in Galilee and came to John at the River Jordan to be baptised by him. John was reluctant at first, suggesting that it should be Jesus baptising John. Jesus answered him that this is what God requires.
