THE EASTER SEASON WILL COME TO A CLOSE IN A LITTLE OVER A WEEK, ON EASTER SUNDAY. But the days leading up to Easter Sunday are equally important to many Christians and Catholics. Holy Week begins this Sunday, March 29, with Palm Sunday.

Each day of Holy Week commemorates different events in the week leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, according to the Bible. Here's the Holy Week 2026 calendar:

PALM SUNDAY March 29. Commemorates Jesus' entry into Jerusalem.
HOLY MONDAY March 30. Commemorates Jesus driving out people selling livestock and changing money in the temple, declaring it a "house of prayer."
HOLY TUESDAY March 31. Commemorates Jesus' final teachings in Jerusalem.
HOLY WEDNESDAY April 1. Sometimes referred to as "Spy Wednesday," Holy Wednesday commemorates Judas conspiring with local authorities to betray Jesus.
HOLY THURSDAY Lent ends: April 2. Sometimes referred to as "Maundy Thursday," Holy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper, where Jesus shared his last meal with his disciples before being arrested and establishes the sacrament of communion.
GOOD FRIDAY April 3. Commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus.
HOLY SATURDAY April 4. Commemorates Jesus's burial.
EASTER SUNDAY Sunday, April 5. Commemorates Jesus's resurrection as described in Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24 and John 20 in the New Testament of the Bible.

"Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen" (Luke 24:5-6).

Palm Sunday also commemorated a St George’s flag dedication. St Peter’s has a history of flying the St George’s flag from its tower - this brand new replacement flag is flown as a sign of prayer, welcome, and National heritage; representing St Peter’s role in serving our local community here in Tiverton 🙏

TOMORROW IS PALM SUNDAY. Do come along to our Serivice tomorrow 10.00am St Peter's, Tiverton. Everyone is welcome, especially if you have kids 🥰

Palm Sunday, also known as Passion Sunday, commemorates Jesus Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

It is associated in many churches with the blessing and procession of palms, including leaves of the date palm or twigs from locally available trees, symbolising how Jesus was welcomed in the Gospels and recognition of Jesus as king.

The event relates to everyday life through simple human experiences. The story of Jesus Christ being welcomed then rejected reminds people how quickly opinions can change. His humble arrival encourages valuing kindness over status. The day also brings communities together through shared traditions. Overall, it reflects real life’s ups and downs, encouraging people to stay grounded, treat others well, and prepare for challenges ahead.

THIRD WEEK OF LENT THOUGHTS: Reading Exodus 16:1–36 really makes us think about how much we trust God. In the story, the Israelites are hungry in the wilderness and start complaining, but God provides for them by sending manna from heaven every morning. The only instruction is that they should gather enough for that day and trust that God will provide again the next day. Some people try to keep extra, but it goes bad by morning.

It makes us realise how often we do something similar. Sometimes we hold on to more than I need because we're worried about the future. We try to create our own security instead of trusting that God will provide. This passage reminds us that God wants us to rely on Him daily, not just when things are easy but when things feel uncertain too.

It can feel scary to let go and trust like that, but God proved to the Israelites that He keeps His promises. We want to learn to trust Him more and focus less on what the world says we need.
